I have P14 and a semi inletted stock sitting in the corner for awhile and was considering having it re chambered to 350 Remington Mag. What would something like that cost and would it be a worthwhile combo ???

depending on who is doing your work and whether or not a reamer is needing to be ordered $200-250 to thread chamber and install your barrel, plus the cost of the tube, to finish your stock - inletting, glass bed, oil finish maybe $200 depending on who and what type of finish you want.

Long heavy action, short cartridge, magazine feeding concerns, lets summarize: New barrel $400, chamber and headspace $200, alter bolt face $$??, alter rails and or mag. $$?? I'm no expert on this but you would be better off buying a Rem. 673 guide gun in .350 mag. The long, heavy, ugly action does have a place however...some of the very long, older cartridges. IMHO

I think it is destined to be a 303 Brit. I can finish the stock but it's just not worth the $$$$$$$$$$ I was thinking the 303 and the 350 mag were close in length and the bolt face is close. But, I am Not a gunsmith. Jack PS. 45/70 ???

Well - A lot of P-14/M-17 sporter stocks are inletted for a "flattened" triggerguard - a common mod done years ago. If this is the case, add a few more bucks to the job...

Bolt face is likely OK. Easier to adapt a M1917 extractor. Reliable feed could be an issue. I agree with Ben, if you want a .350, buy one. If the .303 bore is fine, stay with .303. If you want a bit more oomph, ream for improved, but I cannot say how inproved rounds would feed.

My P-14s/ M-17s are in 308, 35 Whelen, 404 Jeffery and they feed / function without a problem, but I don't know how well shorter cartridges would work...

P14

The key to the most cost effective conversion is if at all possible, to use the existing barrel. My P14 303 Epps feeds fine, although magazine capacity is reduced. I believe a few posters on this site have made up 300 Win/303 wildcats using the original P14 303 barrel and a 300 Win reamer. Pretty simple conversion, just replace the P14 magazine follower with a P17 follower. If I wanted a 35 on a P14, the 358 Norma is a great choice (bolt face should be correct). For a P17, the obvious 35 choice is a Whelen due to the 30/06 bolt face. Remember the old phrase "Nothing is impossible for the man that does not have to do it himself".

Since I was a kid (recently) I have heard people saying how the p-14 was ideal for magnum cartridges since the bolt face didn't have to be altered. Here's the surprise, opening the bolt face is the easiest part of any conversion to a magnum cartridge (unless we're speaking of a Remington 700). The 1917 is much easier to convert to a standard length magnum than is the P14.
The p-14 feeds the 303 British cartridge perfectly. You can load 180's to well over 2600 fps in the P14 (I drive 174's to 2740 fps from my 26 inch Shilen barrel on a P14)
The idea of making a 350 Rem Mag isn't all that foolish but it might be a bit of a chore when it comes to the feeding part. Regards, Bill.

300 Win/303 sounds interesting. I have all kinds of brass. Where would info on that be found ??? I have a lot of reloading manuals but nothing about wildcats

The 350 was sort of designed to run in short actions. It is probably going to be a feed menace. You might be better off to go to the 35 Whelan or just scrap the P14 in favor of a modern action. Rod

If the .303 bore is worn Ken Waters had an early mauser .303 sporter rebored to .303/.338 retaining the Rigby markings. Many p-14's simply had 7mm Rem mag and .300 Win mag barrels put on and sold as century sporters.............Harold .458x2" American?
