So I got my first sks recieved it from tenda canada.
Got it in 2/2.5 weeks
Came in no cosmoline at all thought it would
Overall not bad condition but I have never held another one to compare to.
Some corrosion small amount on barrel ferrule small amount on 1 side of handguard ferrule and stock bolts.
Like to change the stock bolts and handguard ferrule if I can find a place to order some good condition ones.
The trigger group springs need replaced likely due to no cosmoline on it i will put in new ones from a reduced power spring set maybe or find stock ones online.
Butt plate looks like someone slapped paint on with brush in refurb plan to sand it all up and spray it make it nice clean flat looking.
Its a late 1950 russian tula sks laminate stock I prefer the laminate look on these and being stronger and more durable and less apt to crack is a bonus.
I refinished this gun and it looks way better imo NOW I know some of you are against this but I would not have if it were an all matching or collectable one however its not its refurbed and the mag does not match all other numbers match piston rod and cylinder handguard are electro penciled matching.
Has the spring firing pin!
I guess some claim refinishing depreciates the value im fine with that im happier with it now its a shooter for me dont plan on selling and if I ever do 10-15 years from now doubt im gonna lose money gonna try to add couple pics here Im pretty happy with how it looks now just gotta find few new parts I mentioned and redo butt plate.
Serial number is 3K 1891 any information on if this means anything let me know.
How I refinished it cleaned all metal parts, stripped stock, Sanded it 80/120/260, tung oil dark stain mix first coat then 4 coats of minwax tung oil not sure if I will do couple more, 0000 steel wool between coats.
Heres the finished result if anyone knows a good surplus parts page for parts for then leave a comment here!

Lol it took alot longer to do then I planned on.
And Im not sure of differences but I was told the russians were better quality and were the original sks someone else may know more

Im just learning about the SKS now this is my first one

That's a good purchase!! Looks great! And I agree I don't think you have to worry about it maintaining or increasing in value over time.

Also what is the difference between Russian vs Chinese SKS.
Copy of my post over on Reddit

The main difference is the trigger and the bayonet, but also the safety and firing pin.

The Trigger on the Chinese are usual rough, heavy pull, very long creep, and often have a negative sear engagement (dangerous if carrying loaded for hunting etc.). Not that the Russian SKS has a super trigger, but it is better. All that said, if you put a Murray's sear in your Chinese SKS and a Wolf spring kit (also available form Murray's), you Chinese trigger will be much improved for less cost than a Russian SKS (and you get to do some interesting gunsmithing).

The Chinese usual have a spike bayonet which has less cool factor, but is nicer for shooting. The blade interferes somewhat with your forward hand.

Russian's usually have a cool factory stamp on the receiver cover, while the Chinese have a more subtle but still cool factory stamp on the left of the receiver.

Some older Russian SKS have the spring loaded firing pin and a simple firing pin retention pin (rather then the typical one with the strange head that retains the extractor).

Some older Russian SKS have the older safety which takes more force to manipulate and does not 'snap' over. It is just a long stiff swing.

In the end, both are rugged reliable firearms.

Russian vs chinese. There is no difference. Both are great. I have a chinese # match like most who have a chinese. It shoots like them all and keep it clean, then they dont rust

That's a real one sided opinion post on the difference between Russian and Chinese SKS. Every thing that was negative towards the Russian SKS you played it down as if its not that big a deal and you even left out that the early Chinese SKS are nearly identical Russian SKS. You also didn't mention the later Chinese SKS have no swell in the for stock while Russian guns do and Chinese SKS are all chrome lined barrels and gas systems while early Russian SKS are not. The spike bayonet is way better than the blade bayonet. Try roasting a hot dog on a fire with the blade bayonet.

Nice SKS

saw it for about 3 seconds then was reminded why i stopped using photobucket with all its ridiculous annoying popups that blocked the screen lol

Buddy my advice is that if the trigger group springs are shot as in rusty call Tenda and return the rifle to them . don't fart around with the rifle . If I was you I would have called them and told them that it was a piece of crap . I have a funny feeling that they would replace it like yesterday . hell if it was me I would call them and don a mask and tell them I will be at their door like now !!! and have one to slip out the front door to me and they can have their carpet beater rifle back . and please dissemble the one your about to give me and make sure it's perfect .

now this is just my opinion .

They were told they were ####ed and of course the springs got it not hitting primers hard enough so has occasional ftf right now imo from the hammer spring condition.

The springs are 10$ and simple to replace its not a big deal however they could have done something

Told me 15$ off next purchase was my offer, sure I could have likely exchanged it for another and gambled again but if replacing 2 springs in trigger for 10$ is all I gotta do no big deal would have been nice if they had sent me a set but I I will pay and change them myself
10$ kit elsewhere and she will be up and fully operational.
Tenda overall ya not impressed with them at all 0 emails anwsered did replay on instagram to let me know there offer.

It seems like only yesterday that minty SKS's can be had, now it's the bottom of the barrel. OP, nice work on your SKS. Parts are not hard to find, but I would call Tenda and give them some honest feedback!

Ya I did Its not bad overall looks great now but right from start I knew the spring set in trigger group was beat

And im assuming my ftf are coming from that or the ammo Im using only have 1 kind here but I will get it it going good might take a couple changes here and a few bucks but lol

Everythings clean, all looks fine Except those springs all ammo that doesnt fire always fires second time through still saying hammer spring or maybe its bad ammo... only 1 kind with me to try so cant rule out ammo yet either.
