Reciever Sight Options for a Marlin 39 Mountie

I've been doing a bit of research but could use some help from the experts here.

I have a Marlin 39 with a 20" barrel and straight stock that was made before the Mountie designation was given to this model. It is not drilled and tapped on the top of the reciever but does have the holes on the side of the reciever for a sight.

The gun is from the 50's and in great shape. I'd like to find a period correct reciever sight for this gun. What models should I be looking for?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and if you have any photos of Marlins with classic reciever sights, lets see them!

I'd go with an older steel Lyman if you can find one but the newer Lyman's (66MC) are good too. Williams peeps will work as well but I prefer the adjustments on the Lyman.

I poached the picture from google but it looks like the older steel one.....the newer aluminum ones look and function the same but are a bit lighter.
 
I've had several newer Williams sights that were pretty much junk. Weren't very tight, but I've also seen and heard that the newer lymans are junk also. I guess Im just a bit old fashioned and think things just aren't made the way they used to be. As in, lacking quality. The tolerances seem to have fallen by the wayside. I'd recommend looking for an older one in the EE, or even better if you can afford it get a marbles or creedmore flip up tang sight. That is by a long shot the best modern option IMHO.
As a bonus because of the age of your rifle it will have the serial number on the bottom tang instead of the top, which makes mounting a tang sight easier than the newer marlins.

I agree Tim is a great guy who makes great sights. But the Op's gun is not d&t'd on top.
 
I didn't see that the Mountie is not D&T on top, but Skinner could still make you a peep that fits in the barrel dovetail and comes back towards the reciever, look at his webpage closely, thanks Mikeystew for noticing the mistake I made in reading the post, cheers Dale Z!
 
Thanks guys - am now on the hunt for an older lyman or redfield reciever sight. I have a mountie as well that I put on a set of xs sights that are very similar to the skinners. That was the easy one as it was D&T'd - on this gun I want to be a bit more period correct without adding any more holes to the gun!
