I'm running a 124 grn with 3.7.5 ( sometimes its 3.7 sometimes its 3.8 ) grns of W231. For under 1080FPS.

Softest recoil is a heavy bullet (147 gr) with a fast powder (Titegroup, 231)

Start low, work up and see what cycles your action, what is accurate and how it feels.

9mm is snappy, depending on barrel twist, it's worst and not much you can do.

I've used lots of 124gr Campros with 3.5gr of 231. Works great with little recoil and 100% operation reliability.

Do you have to comply with rules like the ones in IPSC and IDPA? If so, get a chrono and use 147gr and fine tune it.

If you don't need a minimum velocity, then, again, buy 147gr and TG as Ganderite said, and try 3.0gr and go up from there. 3.0 cycled my Shadow. Velocity was too low for IPSC power factor requirements though.

They would be most appropriate if you were loading for max power for some reason.

For a light recoil, or a load that just meets the PF requirement, TG or 231 would be better.

Yet another vote for 147’s with Titegroup.
Extremely soft in a Shadow with a 11lb recoil spring (w/buffer) and makes minor.

gun is a SAM 1911 Commander. just want something not so voracious.

I run 3.4gr of TG with campro 147s in my M&P as well as my UDP9. I have gone as low as 3.2gr for the M&P
