Recoil: 12 Ga. vs. Muzzleloader

You could also consider a traditional style rifle and shoot round balls. Well over 30 whitetails in the past 16 years fell to my .50 cal Lyman Deerstalker firing a round ball. They are cheap to shoot and a lot of fun.

open iron sights, external hammer and real black Powder. Best way to go. there's no seperate BP season any more so go traditional. your friends will thank you for it.

I reckon that the recoil levels of my Winchester 1400 12 ga. loaded with Lyman 525 gr. slugs and my .58 cal. H&R Huntsman using 440 gr. Lee R.E.A.L boolits are about the same. The Winny is an auto converted to manual operation and is fitted with a Limbsaver pad and the H&R wears only a plastic butt plate, so for shooting from the bench, the Winchester is more pleasant to shoot.

In the field though, I don't notice the boot of either.:)

Well... I tried shooting Slugs out of my Smooth bore Sx3 and couldn't hit a box at 30 yards??? So I put that way till Turkey Season. I looked at the muzzle loaders but ended up buying a browning semi in 20 gauge with a rifled barrel. Hope to sight it in soon.

8 years and you still haven't figured it out, lol. By 2020 you might actually get out deer hunting.

don't forget about the cleaning of the muzzle loader, I would not store a fired ML for very long, where as a shot gun can go back in the safe and sit there until you go out again.
