For some of you who have had the opportunity to shoot a variety of shotgun systems, I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your results.

Rank the following systems from the hardest felt recoil to the softest.

(Assume 12 gauge with 2 3/4 target loads on all).

Here's my guess, but it's only from what I have read. I have only shot 2 of them.

1. Rem 870 (no system at all)
2. Benelli SBE (inertia driven system)
3. Beretta (gas operated system)
4. Rem 1100/1187 (gas operated system)
5. Beretta (Kick/Off gas operated system)

Am I close?

Shot them all, own/owned a couple ... my interpretation.
(But then again, I don't find the 870 to be at all objectionable with target loads)

870
Benelli SBE
1100/11-87
Benelli SBEII w/Comfort tech / Std Beretta 391
Beretta Extrema II w/Kick-Off ( also the heaviest of the 3 ! )

If you want to reduce recoil, you might want to invest in one of the mercury recoil reducer stock insert thingy... Brownells sells a few different models

Of all the gadgets I got to try over the years, this is the only thing that seems to do a good job at reducing recoil! Do I have one on my shotgun, no.

Otherwise, you can allways start going to the gym and built up more muscle... this will also help you deal with the recoil ;)

Mercury recoil suppressor

Has anyone had any experience with these recoil reducers on Browning A5's. I read in the
brownells catalog about magazine tube suippressor replacing the migratory bird plug. Will this work without affecting my A5's operation?

As far as actual recoil dampening devices go, the newer premium recoil pads like the Limbsaver/R3, X-Coil, and Supercell are pretty effective, especially considering their relatively low cost and installation time. I put a Limbsaver on my 870 and just like that it's made 2.75" magnum buckshot rounds as easy on my shoulder as the low recoil stuff was previously.
