Recoil from 7mm mag?

270, 30-06, 7mm Mag.... All recoil pretty similarly, and perform about the same. It would be difficult to distinguish a recoil difference between any of them spitting a 150gr bullet in the 3000/3100 fps range.

you'll probably find a difference in recoil between a 270 Win 150 gr @ 2900 fps and a 7mm Rem Mag 150 gr @ 3200 fps. Powder charge of 58 grains vs 70 grains, there IS a difference.

I'm not exactly recoil shy but one of the Worst Kicking POS Rifles I've shot is my Bud's 7mm Magnum Parker Hale.......made my 338 feel like a 270.
Can't exactly say why but I suspect crappy stock angles and lightweight to be a factor:confused:

One of the worst experiences I had with a rifle was a Savage 110C in 7mm RM. With the pencil thin barrel, the muzzle blast and rise was bad!
Far worse than my Vanguard in .270Wby. Then again, I was shooting 140gr PMC factory loads :p
Blast was so bad, I can still remember it. Looking through the scope, all I could see was a big ass orange flash. Knocked my Scopview out of zero too. Ah, the good old days!

I have a savage model 116fcsak in 7mm mag it has a fluted stainless barrel and a muzzle brake. The muzzle brake makes a huge difference in recoil but a lot more noise. If noise is not a issue this is a great gun for low recoil.

+1

Between stock fit and a rock hard recoil pad those old Parker Hales did sting me a little. I shot a .270 in one for years. The worst Parker Hale I shot was a .308 Norma. I worked up a load for a friend and had to shoot 60 rounds in short order. I was only too glad to give it back. Now I know where he got his flinch from.
To put it in perspective I think shooting light elephant guns is a lot of fun. Good stock fit is huge, and real pads like Decellerators and Limbsavers work wonders.

As to the original poster, shooting a 7mm Rem Mag is a piece of cake. If it hurts, something's wrong. Fix the problem or get rid of it. Avoid muzzle-brakes like the plague though.
