recoil from a 50-70

I would like to have opinions about what could be the recoil from a sharps carbine (22inch barrel) in 50-70 loaded with a 450gr and black powder. I do not have a 50-70 and I would like to know if the recoil could be ''manageable'' with that type of rifle. thanks:)
 
From a sharps carbine the recoil will be considerable, remember, the US Army had to cut back the charge and bullet weight of the 45/70s back in the 1800s, because recoil was excessive in the Trapdoor carbines. In a heavier, longer barreled rifle recoil is certainly manageable, as my 50/90 Sharps is.
 
I don't have a carbine but do have a sharps and trapdoor both in 50-70. I think I would say that the recoil is similar to a 45-70 and not too punishing

I shot an antique 50-70 Remington at Willowbunch, Saskatchewan. If I remember correctly, the owner, used IMR 4198 powder & cast to create modern equilivant to black powder loads.
Recoil wasn't all that bad. In fact, it seemed pretty similar to 45-70 in equal rifle.
 
I shoot 50-70 in black powder. I found the recoil to be moderate.

I used 450gr (.515)bullet, for a powder load I used 50-70 grains of BP. 70 is the max. For filler I find cream of wheat to be ideal.

REcoil is not that bad my friend Marty has a trap door carbine in 50-70 that we shoot and recoil is mild compared to my 577 stuffed with a 725gr bullet and 110gr ffg depends on what you are used to shooting
 
I have a repro Sharps carbine in .50-70 and fire 450gr bullets in front of between 65-68gr of FFG, depending on compression. Fillers? Just lead & gunpowder. It`s fine.
People seem intimidated by the looks of a loaded cartridge (okay, it does look cool) until they try it. Aside from my unreliable opinion (I like .577 Snider & .577-450 MH, and really big bullets in my .45-70), out of about a dozen people who tried my .50-70, every one was surprised with how reasonable the recoil is.
Try it, you`ll like it.
 
I shoot a Trapdoor carbine in 50-70 & recoil from a 425gn bullet @ approx 12-1300 fps is very minimum. Much like a 45-70 with anemic factory rounds, absolutly nothing to get excited or even enthused about :cool:
 
:) Thanks for the comments guys, I was looking for a Shiloh Sharps carbine in 50-70 but I worried about the recoil in this 7lbs 8oz rifle :confused: Your experiences & opinions convinced me to order one.:D
