Recoil lug?

I's the flat piece of steel hanging down at the front of the action.
I'm pretty sure the aftermarket recoil lugs you've seen need to be fitted by a gunsmith.
Just wait till you need a new barrel.

I've always been interested in a Rem 700 tac and when I finally saved enough change I saw ths gun with all these letters behind it. Did a search on it and figgered "that'll do" for $20 more. In pics it's hard to tell what the stock looks like, but when I got it I was impressed, nice & uguly.
Well I see someone bought into the marketing hype.

Recoil lug is a flat steel lug that fits between the barrel and action (in the case of a Remington) and extends down into the stock; it helps transfer the recoil forces into the stock so recoil is not absorbed exclusively by the action screws

Some actions have recoil lugs built-in, or in the case of Tikka, the lug is in the stock and fits into a notch in the action

The gun comes factory with a thread protector, no attachments. I'll just get a break for it, one that matches the contour of the barrel (I think a bigger break might look goofy on such a short barrel).
Original recoil lug is fine. You don't need an aftermarket one.
BTW, did you get a Sound Suppressor with the rifle?

Remington says it's the same as a 700 Tac but with a threaded muzzle and a different stock. They say the 1:10 twist is to help stabilize bullets from that 20" barrel.
AFAIK that rifle was specifically designed for subsonic suppressed shooting which is something you are unlikely to do. IIRC it has quite a fast twist rate.
