I want to treat myself to a Surefire dedicated forend light on my 14" HP9-1 with a Spec-Ops recoil reducing stock.

I am not recoil sensitive but I have heard that with the Spec-ops stock, the Surefire forend can be rough on your pump hand with heavy loads. Is there any truth to this?

This is my house and camp gun so the light is a practical consideration.

I've got one on mine and its important to remember to place the "hump" formed by the light portion into the web of your off hand rather than be tempted to place it against the base knuckle of that hand as it'll hurt like crazy. Into the web is best.

I've shot said test gun (And I highly recommend that you check his website to have a look at the stock system, I love mine :) ), and I didn't have any issues with the SureFire forend. In addition to that, I had one on my Remington 870 Police Magnum about a year or two ago, and didn't have any issues either, with a variety of loads.

I have the light on my 870, mostly recoil is a problem when blasting from the hip but the right grip helps, I don't put my hand right against the light, hand slides forward on firing then I get a fresh grip back a bit on the forestock, works for me. I have thought about adding a strap to retain my hand in the right place but haven't got around to trying it yet.

I'll get one from Dave's when I get back to Canada. Do they carry the plug for when the light is removed?

The plug is model number A11, and usually runs around $20 - $25. A tad pricey, but handy to have, IMO. The only place I was able to find one was at 911 Supply in Calgary. But I'm pretty sure that TSE has some on order as well.

I have the similar set up to you except mine has a speed feed buttstock, I do not find the light and issue during recoil. I keep rearward tension on the slide as I pull the trigger that way the slide automatically comes back as I shoot reducing the impact of my hand moving into the light.
