Recoil pad for .375 Ruger

I have a small scar on my forehead from my Alaskan. Offhand, snap shooting first shot and a quick-as-you can follow up shot. My attention faltered slightly on the second shot.....
I don't have years and years of shooting heavier recoiling rifles like that one, so it does take some getting used to. It is not heavy recoil to some, to others it is too much. For me it is significant, but not scary or painful. I will shoot up to 20 rounds in a range session with it before my shoulder get sore and I put it away. Doesn't make me flinch though, which is the important part.

The reason you don't flinch is that you put the rifle away before you upset your (subconscious) nervous system....Smart!
No the 375Ruger is not a big recoiler, but if it is your first powerful rifle it will feel intimidating. You are right to approach it with caution.
On big thumpers I try to get the scope so far ahead that I have to crane my neck (ever so slightly) to get the full field of view. There is nothing worse than trying to regain your shooting composure after a serious hit. Following my 340Wby "experience" It took a month of intensively shooting .22's and dry firing to pacify my nervous system. Even still I wasn't right for some time.
Incidentally, my buddy also had a few bad experiences with my 340Wby....Not a scope cut, but rather a sore shoulder on several different outings. The funny thing is that he has become very proficient with his 375 Ultra yet is blunt about being flat terrified of the "little" 8 pound .340.....Even though he knows that that the 340 has less recoil.
