Recoil pad for a 1895 Marlin!

I want to replace the recoil pad on my Marlin 1895 in 45-70. Any recommendations? I bought a Sims for my .280, and while the fit is close, it isn't exact! What does anyone use? Thanks!

Is yours the 22" barrel with the brown, hard rubber butt pad. If so, I would be willing to buy your old one off of you when you find your replacement. If you want to sell it that is :D

I have a Decelerator on mine (22" bbl.) I also bought a pre-fit and it, too, is " close", but not a perfect fit. I have heard that the Sims (Limbsaver) are more effective, although more awkward to grind if you need to do so.

Best done with a 1" vertical belt sander. A pad jig like Brownell's or
A-Squares makes the job a lot easier. Simms pads are a softer rubber
compound than Pachmayr's or Kick Eez ... slow the belt speed down
a little, and tell yourself there's no rush. Die grinders, Foredom's,
Dremels and drill mounted discs won't give you the control you need
for a good job.
