recoil pad for K31

Just got back from shooting three milsurps I recently purchased. Makes me realize just how bad my 48 year old eyes are getting. Will never realize the potential accuracy of the guns, as I can barely make out the target circle past 60yds! Sadly, will prob. have to scope one of the guns if I use it next year for deer.
Mosin - lucky to keep all rounds in 4"group at 50yds
Swede 96 - lovely gun to shoot with low recoil. About 2" group at 65yds. Would be better if I had better eyes. Reluctant to scope it, as it looks as though I'd have to get it drilled.
K31 - kicks like a dirty mule! 18 rounds left a lovely blue dent in my shoulder. Hard not to flinch when you know what's coming. Was very impressed with the accuracy, and I saw that you can mount a scope without drilling/altering the gun. Can anyone recommend a good recoil pad brand/model for this gun ?
 
Save the money from getting a recoil pad and save up for laser surgery!!!

My 22 year old shoulders can take 100+ rounds in a sitting no problem...holding it too lose maybe?
 
Options;
a) Change how you shoot the K31. Change the angle of your shoulders to the axis of the barrel. Perhaps the shoulders are to square to the rifle so there is little give in your body to absorb the recoil. Lean more into the rifle. Press the butt into your shoulder. I find a rifle pressed into my shoulder by the sling very comfortable.

b) Use a shooting jacket. Store bought or homemade. I always use one when shooting on score. One jacket can be used with anything that goes bang and has a buttstock. Everyone in our Swiss Rifle Club uses one.

c) Muzzle brake, Swiss Products makes both a clamp-on and a threaded one for the K31. Works very well and reduces recoil down to about 6.5x55 levels. We use them for kids, ladies, guys with arthritis and occasional shooters.

d) Recoil pad will need the adapter plate from Swiss Products. It gives a flat surface for the reoil pad and other side follows the contours of the buttstock. Used quite often for people who think they need a longer pull distance than the regular stock length. Again, position sensitive

I find my K31 a real pleasure to shoot. Both Limbsaver and Pachmayr make great universal slip on pads that work great. Also, if you are handloading you can reduce to the minimum load. I do like the fit and finish of the muzzle break listed above, looks great !
 
Alex - a very wise Newfoundlander (ok, no wisecracks here) once told me that " sarcasm is the lowest form of witt.......and is only used by the illiterate!". I'll give the purse a try! Is it just my gun, or do all these K31s kick like a pig? I have 3.5"turkey loads that kick less in a light pump. Thanks folks for the links to the muzzle break. I think I'll give it a try, as the gun is so much fun to shoot. Re: scope mounts - I see that S+K makes milsurp mounts that require no modification to the gun, and they are available for both my Swede 96 and the K31. Has anyone tried an s and k mount? What's the better K31 mount - S and K, or the Swiss Products one? The S and K is looking like the beefier of the two. Re: laser surgery - that's what pisses me off. Had a vision test recently and they said I have 20/20 vision. I'm now wearing 1.75 reading glasses, and target circles at 60 yards sure don't look as clear as they did 20 years ago. My wife says incontinence and impotence comes next.........................damn.
 
S&K mount is only for long eye relief scopes, a.k.a L.E.R pistol scopes.
Not the best for tight accuracy, but ok if bush hunting is all you want to do with it.

Swiss Products clamp-on mount give you more options and is stable to boot.

I am going to hazard a guess and say the stock is a very poor fit for you. The 7.5x55 is ballistically equivalent to the .308, so it isn't a particularly hard kicking round, especially in a fairly heavy milsurp rifle. But poor stock fit will beat you up regardless of how much actual recoil there is. I have a sportered Enfield No.4 Mk.1 that is the most uncomfortable gun I have shot, including a number of big magnums. My .338 Win Mag is much nicer for me to shoot than the Enfield, despite having vastly more recoil, simply because it fits me well and the Enfield fits me very poorly.

FWIW, I find most milsurps have a short LOP and I use a slip on Limbsaver pad for shooting at the range, both to soften the recoil of those steel buttplates and to add some LOP for more comfortable bench shooting.
