The "Hockey Puck" vulcanized rubber recoil pad on my Savage 12FV .308 did in my shoulder after only 35 rounds.
Any suggestions of type and locations where to pick up a replacement? WSS new web site sucks and they don't list a 1/10th of what the old site did.

Go to the Limbsaver website, Print off the templates to match your stock. Check out P&D in Edmonton, they are a GREAT place with GREAT customer service.
If you want to make totally sure, take the gun into P&D to get a good fit.

I had the same issue with my Winchester Mod70, the butt pad was as hard as a hockey puck. I chose the Limbsaver because I put it and the Patchmyer side by side and it was nicer. You will be much happier changing it out.

I agree the limbsaver is the way to go....the difference between the ole hockey pucks and the limbsaver is dramatic, it honest to goodness makes must chamberings, regardless of the weight of the rifle, a pleasure to shoot.

A few years ago I was having the stock shortened on my SP10. I had the factory R3 limbsaver pad replaced with the thinnest decelerator pad. The limbsaver was about 3 times as thick but the decelerator actually worked better in my opinion.

I recently had a half inch decelerator pad installed on my 7600 in 308. I'm not at all recoil shy but when you have the kind of prominent collar bones that attracts the ladies, well as you can imagine, 50 or so shots off the bench can leave blemishes on the skin.

Decelerators tamed down my hard hitters. You got beat up by a .308 in a 12FV???:p

Yeah,...I was surprised myself. Hell, I've done clays for a day with buds and fired a couple of hundred 12ga. and not come away that sore.
Like warrenb said..."those ###y collar bones" :D I guess as age advances the muscles that were built up when younger tend to waste away when you get older and don't use them as much.
I'll just take it into P&D and match something up either in limbsaver or decelerator.
Thnx guys for the suggestions

Another vote for limbsaver. They're designed to reduce muzzle jump and recoil and do both very well.

X 7 or 8 on the decelerator...I used to use Sims all the time, but find the pachmyr rubber doesn't get as sticky, and works as well or better.

Just picked up a limbsaver today and put it on my Savage 116 300 Saum. It feels good compared to the hard one that the rifle came with. Have not shot it yet ,but expect it to be great from all the reviews I have heard. My son just told me he saw a demo on the limbsaver . Where they dropped balls onto different recoil pads .When they dropped it on the limbsaver ,the ball hardly bounced compared to the others. Did" nt see this myself tho.

Installed the "Limbsaver" I bought today....the screws bottomed out before the pad tightened up.
