Recoil Pad Recomendations

What ever you like is what you should use! In all the 1000's of Kickeez we have put on our stocks I have never actually heard from anyone about them "split and chunk" and I have never replaced one including on 50's for military use. I imagine if you dropped the butt on a sharp rock you might be able to start a tear but I have never tried. If I can make a 308 recoil like a 223 I will happily do it. Recoil is not my friend even though it may be yours.

Ian:

I hear you. I don't neccessarily "like" a lot of recoil, but as most of my shooting is at the shotgun sports with O/U's, 12 gauges - even with target loads, do have some recoil.
I don't find it unpleasant, but after 200 to 300 shots it does get a little tiring.

As to splitting & chunking, I have thrown 2 away ( Kickeez's) already, but still have one here that has a slice out of the heel on a Browning Gold ... and no, not dropped or abused. The Pacmayr's will stand up to a lot more use, the oldest of which I have is on a 35 Whelen and still showing no ill effects or wear after nearly 20 years. Some of the really gummy (and outrageously coloured) Trap pads in vogue at the Grand a few years back were the same... after a while they were prone to show splits and chunk out too.

I'm delighted from your manufacturer's perspective you have good luck with them. I suspect precision rifles may be a little bit more well looked-after than might target & hunting shotguns. ;)

Ian installed a Kick Eez on a stock he made for my 50 cal muzzleloader; between the stock change and the pad, the gun turned into a pussycat with a 300 grain bullet and 100 grains of Triple 7..

Jason Spencer installed a thick Pachmyer on my Ruger No 1 in 375 H&H Mag and it made a big difference. I shot it standing for a bit just after I bought it and I find shooting it off a bench (same setup for my target/varmint rifle) has less recoil now with the new pad. I was a bit stiff last time I was done with it, but I realized I just fired about 35-40 rounds out of it in 30 minutes.

The Kick Eez has not seen much field use, so I cannot talk about durability, but the Decelerator seems to be holding up well (had it about 3 years), but sticks up a bit on saddle cloth type (waht they used to call the silent material hutning outfits are made out of) camo clothing.

Being a tall fellow, I prefer the slip on pads from Limbsaver. I just put them right over the original, available in 3 sizes, give me some needed added length, don't look as nice, but the versatility is great. FS
