recoil pad reviews

Stock fit can be important as a not insignificant amount of recoil can be felt on the cheek. On heavy load waterfowling 870 I have a cheek recoil pad and has made all the difference. Just something to think about. I have nothing to add to what others have said about limbsaver, kickeez, pachmayer...

The limbsaver aircell slip on is a good thing to have in your bag if you are using different guns or are not onboard with grind to fit pads. I put one a youth 20 gauge for my daughter, I was surprised just how well it worked. I have used a grind to fit limbsaver as well, I froze the pad, used a belt sander with a good helping of furnisher polish on the belt and went to town on it. The material does get a little grabby but finishing it up by hand made for acceptable results. YouTube has a ton of how to videos on it.

I have a Limbsaver Air tech pad installed on my Mossberg and I quite like it. The only complaint I have is that the pad is real sticky and makes it difficult to quickly shoulder the gun properly. My solution is to apply a real handy camo micropore tape to the pad and it conforms perfectly to the contours and completely eliminates the tacky rubber. That micropore tape is fantastic!

While I have never put an aftermarket pad on a shotgun, I have both pre-fit and grind to fit LimbSaver and Pachmyer Decelerator pads on many of my rifles.
Between the two, the LimbSaver is my preferred choice for the harder recoiling rifles/larger cartridge combinations.
Some were more to extend the lop of the firearm than to improve felt recoil reduction. The other benefit, is that compared to hard plastic or metal butt pads, the rubber butt pad keeps the rifle from slipping and falling when standing in the corner or leaned against the wall.
I do like the Pachmyer Decelerator with the hard insert at the top of the pad, for my lever actions. This is known as the Sporting Clays model... it is designed to keep the softer rubber from catching on your clothing as you mount the firearm quickly. Does work.

I've purchased a couple of used shotguns with Limbsaver's on them and I always end up removing them and putting something else on because the Limbsaver's too sticky for mounting the gun to the right place consistently. The good thing is that I can usually retrofit the used Limbsaver to a rifle that needs a better pad and reap the benefits of the nice soft cushion.
