Recoil pad selection??

In one of my previous searches for a recoil pad, I did find out that the Limbsaver seemed to be the first choice. The Kik-Eze was a close second. I also learned that if you grind the pad, the choice of sanding medium is important as is the speed at which you grind. They had also mentioned putting it in the freezer over night to get a nice finish job. A search will probably yield the information that I speak of.

I found the pachmyer was just a little 'spongy' - i'd use it on a shotgun, (which in fact is what it was on) but i don't know if you wouldn't risk a little scope-kiss if you weren't being careful. I liked the r-3 just a little bit better. But they're both pretty good.

I don't know about durability tho.. i've never been sissy enough to actually need to OWN one.. :D (ENTIRELY kidding! - anything you do to make your gun more pleasant to shoot is a smart thing to do.)

One more question about the limbsaver pads and synthetic stocks (in my case, the savage 111 fcxp3): Are they simply flat on the stock side, or do they have at least something that fits into the hollow on a synthetic stock to prevent lateral motion? I cringe a little when I think about an aftermarket pad teetering around on the 'rim' of the (cheap) plastic stock... Hell there's a block of styrofoam in there to keep it from crushing

There's limit to how much any pad can help once recoil starts to get "up there". The whip on your head, neck and upper body makes the little tap on the shoulder seem of minor importance. For .300 Mags and down they do take out quite a bit of sting though. Check this out, if it works.

I have Pachmyer decelerators on 3 of my rifles now. I had one installed on a buddy's .350Mag for his birthday and he loves it. I would imagine the Kick-EZ and Limbsaver would work great too.

I bought an adapter to mount a decelerator on a Ruger MkII synthetic stock. It covers the hollow back end of the stock and gives you a spot to screw the pad to.

This thing works exceptionally well...
