Howdy folks,

Happily, a couple of years ago, I finally managed to find an EAL carbine in okay shape to add to my Enfield stable.

Sadly, one of the two screws mounting the Jostam recoil pad on the butt is horribly stripped, and I cannot get the bugger to loosen.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what tool to use to dig the bugger out of there, so I can perhaps replace it with a new screw?

Cheers,

Neal

If you can get a steel sleeve that surrounds the screw head inside the pad to protect the pad from a drill bit you can drill the head of the screw off. If you have one screw out you can determine what size bit is required to equal or slightly exceed the top of the screw shank. A pair of vise grips will hold the remainder of the screw and let you twist it out.

If you have access to a welder, weld a nut to the head.(tack the nut on the inside where the threads are to the bolt head) then use a socket to take it off.

decide on a allen key that is less than 1/3 the dia. of the visible head' center punch the head, drill a hole the size accross the flats of the allen key, drive the allen key into hole this should give you enough purchase to remove screw the same can be done with a robertson or torx driver a litle penetrating oil would be a good idea too.

Yeah. my big problem is that the screw head is INSIDE the recoil pad, which I wish to preserve from any damage, as it's a bit of a collectors piece...

Unless anybody has a spare Jostam pad lurking about?
