recoil pads

Im really enjoying my mossberg 500, however the LOP seems to be a bit too long for me.

a friend recommended getting a thinner recoil pad rather than having the stock cut. Does anyone know any stores that sell, preferably brown, recoil pads?

and im also guessing its not universal. i looked at a few recoil pads and it doesnt really state what gun it was intended for. Is there a serial code that i have to go by?

Goto a gunsmith and get a butt pad ground to fit the stock. It's the only likely option for you wanting a thinner one. Pachmayer or limbsaver etc. All make grind to fit pads.

limbsaver makes a pad just for the mossberg 500, i will probably purchase that

The prefit pads are usually 1" thick.

I personally believe is shortening the buttstock and keeping as thick of a recoil pad as possible.
