Recoilless AR-15?

Anyone able to post the recipe to build a recoilless AR?

Two summers a ago someone at the range let me try their AR, telling me it had no recoil. I was like, ya ok whatever... Well I fired it, and if not for the 2-foot fireball and SHA-BOOM I would not have thought it fired, or even cycled for that matter. After I returned the rifle to the bench and asked the owner "how did you achieve this?" He takes the rifle, smirks, and says, "about $4000 worth of parts", turns his back and walks away.

Probably a light weight bolt carrier group, possibly titanium as well as an adjustable gas block are probably the most critical parts. Eliminate the reciprocating mass, remove the bulk of the recoil.

You could probably do it on the cheaper end of things. When I say cheaper I don’t mean cheap, but less than 4 grand. Build a rifle out of basic parts, nothing fancy receivers and parts.
Spend your money on:

Lightweight bolt carrier group
Adjustable gas block
BIIIG ass muzzle brake
Some kind of fancy buffer system (I’m not to familiar with any)
A half decent heavy barrel.

Then handload for it, find the lightest loads that’ll still cycle to action.

Other than weight its probably the compensator. Besides that I find that .223s have nearly no recoil ...

Less mass = more felt recoil. There is less weight to move so the same force propels the lighter object faster/harder. You might be able to mitigate it with the buffer system but I definitely noticed an increase in recoil when dropping in a Ti bcg (though it wasn't set up for recoil reduction)




You can also play with your buffer system to change a lot up. Sprinco makes buffer springs of various stiffness, combined with different buffer weights and gas tuning would help absorb a bunch I bet.
