Recomend me a goose call(s)....

So ive decided to get a little more serious as far as goose hunting this year and i want calling to become a big part of it. Ive watched lots of videos but that only goes so far. Ive seen custom made calls at gun shows for $60+ and up. As someone who has never called anything, is that something i should be looking at or can i start out with a $10 flambeau from canadian tire?
 
Should of done this in the off season as its going to take time to get good at it, not an easy task unless you just have natural talent. I have an illusionz goose flute which is good for starters and now I am practicing with a Zink Power Clucker which is a good entry level call. Just keep practicing now matter how bad it sounds but you'll eventually get it, good luck
 
I found the Zink Power Clucker fairly easy to pick up... better than the Canada Hammer or Canada Hammer II (which I started with).... to me it just seems easier to get the volume and sound I am looking for and they are reasonably priced ($30 I think).
 
If you have never goose called before, I wouldn't start this close to the season. You are liable to scare more off than you would call in. You want to bring geese in, buy a goose flag. Shaking that thing has brought more geese in for me than calling. I call geese well enough and have the 150$ custom calls. Somedays you are better off not using them. Just get where the geese want to be and flag the hell out of them.
 
This year you can use recorded calls! For Snow Geese atleast. But it states this " Recored snow goose calls may be used while hunting Snow Geese. Any species for which there is an open season may be taken while hunting Snow Geese using these recored calls"

So basically if its open season and anything else lands while playing Snow Geese recordings, Your good to go! Worth a shot, Better then scaring away any Geese around you learning to call :p Like everyone else said it is tricky. Youtube videos helped me learn a bit, Still no pro lol
 
Well, I own goose calls and I completely suck. I only call to try and get attention to my decoys/flagging. The way I understand it, there are short reed calls and then flutes. They say that if you start with a short reed and practice even a little you will have a wider range of what you can do with a call. It is also said that a flute, may be easier to get started on, but then you are limited in your calls and then it will be harder to transition to a short reed.
So, for a flute, look at the Eastern Shoreman.
For a short reed, have a look at Craig MacDonald GK Canadian. Craig also has a CD called "All Goose". Good Canadian guy from Woodstock/Kingsville Ont.

A quality call isn't any harder to learn to call with than a cheaper call so just by yourself a better quality call to start with and learn to call with it. You'll have it forever and will save you $$ in the end not going through a couple dozen calls until you decide to get a better quality call! If you want a well made, thick walled and super sounding acrylic call at a great price contact Doug Jalas at River Bottom Calls. Best $100 I ever spent on a Goose call and very easy to use!
 
Ive seen some really nice and hunted with some really good Zink calls , called "the moneymaker" and "the call of death" others similar, its just $180, i bought mine at bass pro for 59.99 Sean mann eastern shoreman express, best one i can find for the $, i can call geese back over my house from 600 yards
 
zink power maximus and zink power clucker as stated above some of the best calls for the money and easy to use.really nothing ive tried comes close for the money .

Why not practice in the field? Also I own a goose caller and it sits in the cabin and collects dust as I call them with my own voice for Canada's ... for snow geese just whistle ... believe it or not you don't need a goose caller if you learn to call and whistle. ;) Cheers,

Learn what a goose is supposed to sound like first. Get a goose calling tape or CD or DVD. Then, pretty much any decent call will work.
