Just as a suggestion.....you may want to check out the Maverick 88 with the shorter barrel at Cabelas for around 240 dollars . They are made for Mossberg and are tough as nails . If it is still to long with the regular stock , put a folding stock on it and you are still well under 500 dollars even with taxes and shipping....

Norinco JW 2000 Double Barrel 12 Ga (12" Barrel) Good use as a "scatter gun"

I see a lot of recommendations for the 12.5 inch Dominion Arms or Norinco pump guns but only this one for a double-barrel coach gun. I would really like to hear some more about this, preferably from someone who owns or has fired both.

One or the other of these will probably be my next purchase.

Heavy, slow to ready the gun to fire in comparison to the 12.5" pump, only one follow up shot vs 4+1 capacity.

I won't use it as a bear gun based on the points I stated above, but if it is all you got it sure as hell beats yelling and throwing rocks.

I only got the gun bit over a month ago, so it has yet to really earn my trust.

I just got Remington 870 wingmaster action. Bought a Remington stock and grip. Then I ordered a dlask 14" barrel. Excellent quality for all around 650. If you wanted to go a little cheaper you could get a NEA barrel instead of a dlask and you will be around $560 or even cheaper if you find a good deal on a wingmaster.

Thank you, Grove. I guess it is time, as my grandfather used to say, to s#it or get off the pot.

Having difficulty finding specs on the Dlask 8.5", any owners could chime in on the weight and length would be appreciated?

I don't own a 8.5, but according to my unreliable memory, they're 29" long and a bit less than 7 lbs with factory Remington stock, going with a Hogue 12" LOP stock would of course drop 2" as well as a bit of weight.

However, the 12.5 length is much more practical and the difference in length vs the 8.5" is hardly impressive when placed side by side or when toting it around.

Yeah, I see the 8" one as a novelty "how short can you go" kind of shotgun.
Not anymore fun to shoot than an 12.5" and not short enough to deem it superior pack wise either, as my 12.5" guns are between 29-30" anyways.

Even has the shoulder thing that goes up!

Had to ask and it makes sense.. I was actually looking more for the fab arm 11" pistola, more versatile and aiming at 5lbs you just can't go wrong.

The other thing about the 8" Dlask (or Norinco, if they still make it), is that it limits you to 2 shells in the tube mag, and none of the standard fore-end furniture will fit.

Also, since this thread last year started... This happened. Loving the Ricol as well.

I for one love the 8.5" 870, for me it is perfect. I do not feel that it is a novelty or a range toy only. I am confident using mine and it is comfortable to carry too. To each his/her own though.

I will get some details on length and weight for you later tonight or over the weekend.

Top to bottom:

Mossberg 500 18.5" cylinder choke with a Choate top folder. Advantage is it's light weight due to the aluminum receiver.

Norinco HP9-1, 14" with modified and cylinder Winchokes. Very reliable feeding and extraction of all ammo type. Heavy weight.

Norinco 12" Outlaw.

So my Dlask 8.5" 870 is 27.25" overall with the Mesa Urbino stock, it weighs approx 6.25 pounds.

Here it is, there are many changes still planned for this gun.

Here is how I carry it with my gear on, which is also why I wanted to go with the 8.5" version

I did not mean to discount or downplay 8" barreled shotguns. Novelty wasn't the right description as they are seriously badass guns with legitimate applications for some.

Nah, they looked cool, but they were junk. Unreliable in semi, unreliable as pumps. Buttstock painful under recoil. Overly expensive. Cool factor 100, practical factor 0!

Any Dominion Arms, any old Wingmaster, a Hatzan pump... all of these are not only 1/3 the price but better in EVERY way.
