Recommend 223 Powders.

Hey all.

What powders do you guys recommend? I've got a bunch of Hornady and Berger bullets.

Got some Varget.

Know where to get Benchmark if it is any good.

Gonna use them in a Savage 1 in 9 twist.

Great success in the past with W748.

Benchmark and varget worked well for me. Both in a 1:9 Savage barrel too. Was using benchmark for the light 40g Noslers and Vmax. Varget for 69g SMKs and 77g Amax.

Rl 15, VT 540, will work best with 69gr to 75gr with 1/9 twist

I usually use WC 845 or H335. A .223 is all about volume for me, and a ball powder meters so well.

Lately I've been having real good groups (under.500) with Varget and IMr 4064. I'm shooting Sierra 69 gr. HPBT Match out of a Savage Model 12.....Ken

H335 works fantasic in my Stevens 200 with 1:9 twist

I've been using Benchmark and Varget for my .223 mostly because I had a bunch on hand. Both have worked very well for me in a 1-10" twist barrel using 60-62 gr pills.

I use Varget, but since it is in a Ruger Mini-14 and the gun shoots one-foot groups on a good day, I think I could get away with using ground up match heads and achieve the same results

Seriously, N540 is a a Cadillac 223 powder

I would say your on right track with powder you got, my 223 didn't like Varget. I am sure that I used Bench Mark.

I have had good luck with Varget and h4895. I know h335 works well, but I don't use it as it is not an extreme powder. With Benchmark my groups look more like a shotgun pattern.

What primer are you using with the 69gr and Varget??

Varget with 80 grain bullets in 1 in 8 twist.

wc 736 Surplus for the AR, H335 for the AR and Boltgun with H322 for the Coyote gun.

Using varget now, will go back to Benchmark when I run out. Both are good.

You answered your own question! Varget and/or Benchmark. My 223's have always liked 26gr Varget with a 65 or 69gr bullet, Hornady or Sierra.
