Recommend a .22lr handgun

Hi all,

no luck with the search function. I'm thinking of a Ruger Mk3 target model. I do like the Ruger SR22 long slide model, but it seems to be elusive. Any opinions on a particular? Whats the takedown like on these guns?

Ruger MV-IV if want easiest takedown.

Another excellent option, SW Victory, SW22.....excellent value, great shooter.
 
There is a reason there are so many Ruger's and Brownings around. I honestly think after narrowing it down to those two it becomes a matter of personal preference......both are good choices.
 
I did a lot of research like you and bought a Ruger MKIII target, the most recommanded models are the Ruger MK series, the browning buckmark and the S&W victory. For a lot more $$$ the S&W model 41.
 
If you are going used you might want to look at a S&W 22A-1, my wife has one and it is so easy to clean, almost as easy as my S&W 617 revolver and it's just as accurate and 1/3 the cost of my 617.
The 22A-1 will eat any 22 round we have put in it, it's shot thousands of rounds with 0 hiccups or problems.

GSG 1911 - ZRTS - Dlask

Just throwing this out there... I picked up a lightly used and nicely tuned GSG 1911 .22LR as a fun practice pistol to go with my S&W1911 .45.
Last weekend I was up at VFGPA doing a holster recert with others with high-end .22lr Rugers and Sigs. The GSG held it's own and was only held back by the operator. :)

Another vote for the S&W Victory. Can’t beat it for the price. Another good .22 is the Walther PPQ .22 5” but they are tough to find. It took me about a year to find one.
 
I picked up the sig 1911 same as the gsg but branded sig , added the zrts kit upgrade and some hogue finger groove wrap around and its good to go great fun

I can recommend the S&W 617 10 shot revolver, that will be the last .22 you will ever buy... And you will keep that forever. As they say: your grandkids will shoot it too.
 
Ruger MKIII is a project gun. Great potential but the trigger and bolt need more care. Volquartzen upgrades are great but expensive cause you coud have just bought a better gun. Pistols I would consider a browning medalist if you can find one in good condition.

If I had to do it again, I would probably go revolver though i do love my mkiii as is with the volq bolt, trigger and sam lam bushing. my complaint is it should have come like that factory.

If you are interested in a 22LR target pistol I do not think you can go wrong with either the S&W Victory or the Ruger MKIV. Love them both.
They are accurate, reliable and awesome. well machined, adjustable sights, longish barrels and solid construction.
The only issues I've had with the victory (which has a smaller grip) is getting my thumb in the way of the ejector (I'm left handed). Takedown requires an allen key (provided) which is no big deal.
The Ruger MK IV is a very fine pistol and my personal favourite. It costs more than the S&W but I feel it is worth the extra $$. Takedown requires a press of a button. The grip and body are a bit larger than the SW Victory so fits better for me. It has an ambi safety so, again, its good for me as a lefty.
The S&W trigger is better though. Lighter and crisper with shorter reset as compared to the MK IV.
I have had 7 FTF/FTE over 2000 rounds with the victory. 2 with the MK IV after 1000 rounds.
BTW I've only fired CCI Mini Mag 36gr through both.

Take a look at plinkster22's review of the two to get another opinion.
No personal experience with other 22 pistols - A friend has the GSG and tells me he has many issues with FTF/FTE. He could be riding the slide, or, it could be the pistol.
