recommend a 9mm 124gr bullet?

I've been reading threads until my eyes are bleeding, so it's time to ask for recommendations. :D

I'm new to reloading 9mm, and would prefer not to go with lead. I have a CZ Shadow, I'll be competing at 50m, slow fire. W231, CCI primers, Win brass once fired in my pistol. Accuracy is everything; I'm not concerned with power factors or velocity. (Besides, I haven't a chrony!) CZ states the Shadow was meant for 124's, even though it handles the 115's or 147's quite well, so that's what I'm going with.

Plated or FMJ? (btw, what is CMJ?)
RN, SWC, or?
Brand names?

Assume that price is no object. It bloody well is, but ignore that for now. :D Thoughts?
 
CMJ - complete metal jacket; usually plated bullets e.g. Frontier

I shoot Shadow as well and keep getting Frontier 124gr plated ones that showed very good (to me) accuracy and ease of loading results.

Last night at the range I would hit 2" circle 3 times out of 10 with others being less than 2" away from it. Off hand. Good enough for me.

I load with either Fed or Win primers and Universal powder.

Also, I didn't notice better accuracy with factory 147gr Ranger or 115gr XTP handloaded ammo.
 
I shoot 124 gr AIM bullets, they do all right for what I use em for....from some of the results they post on their website, they are capable of some good accuracy as well.
 
If you're doing 50m and accuracy is everything, try some Speer Gold Dots. Expensive, probably 4x-5x plated bullets, but they'll be amongst the most consistant bullets you can find. If I were looking for purely accuracy, it'd be either plain lead or jacketted. I suppose if you weighed, measured and sorted every plated bullet, you could likely get good results. You could likely do OK without doing so, but if accuracy is everything.......

ETA try to find out what the guys you're competing with are using, that'd be a good starting point for research.
 
I tried a number of different bullets in my CZ, including the AIM plated bullets.

I found it shot much better with the 135 LRN than the 125s of any flavour. Also found the 135s worked better in my other 9mms, too.

Load is not hot - 3.9 gr WW231

No leading in any of then guns, including the Glock.
 
In my neck of the woods, if you find 9mm bullets in stock somewhere, you buy them and adjust the load till you get the most accurate group out of them. Its so bad right now I have reverted to casting my own 124 grain Lee tumble lube bullets. Wheelweights need more wheelweights!!
If I lived on the other side of the country and I could get Aim or Frontier
or BDX for a reasonable price, I would be very happy. Shipping is the killer for any thing sent to me. Its not uncommen to see them at $124 a 1000. Were in the east $80 a 1000. Its just not fair.
 
I shoot both Aim and Frontier Plated bullets in both my 9mm and 40 CZ's. Great accuracy and zero malfunctions. 4.3 gr.'s of 231 is my load for Aim 124gr. RN. OAL 1.150.

yes they are Quigley. let me know how many you want to try and i will get them to you. no promises for February through as i am leaving for Florida and the open on Thursday :}}}}} however i can probably get some in the mail to you on Monday.

you are comparing a plated bullet with a FMJ bullet. they are not the same thing!

if you want AIM (plated) bullets they are available in Calgary. if you want a BDX FMJ bullet they are available in Vauxhall.

The competition is at the Vancouver Swiss club, using club supplied 124gr. Sometimes it's the military issue "pistolenpatrone", and last year it was the Speer "Lawman" 124gr. TMJ, which they say is similar to the Gold Dot. I figured since that's the weight I'll be issued, and that's what CZ recommends, that's the weight I'd practice with.
I've always used the club P210's, but now that I have my Shadow, I'll be bringing that, and figured to practice with what I'll be using. Some of the guys there are absolutely amazing shots. I've managed to win a gong once myself, so I know I can do it, but the last 2 times out I've been disappointed in my results- not enough practice. I've gone through 700 rds, have 100 left, and need to reload.
