Recommend a budget red dot

I know this will bring on some groans, but I use a Tasco cheapo on my 10/22 take/down. I buy the cheapest batteries I can find and keep a couple of spares in the carry case in case I forget to turn it off. Better to kill a cheap one than on of the ridiculous expensive ones. The cheap ones last for what I need.

Maybe your tasco is better, but I've got two NCStar and one CrossPoint red dot, and they both suck fat donkey balls. WAY bigger housing than a TRS25 or Crossfire, and the dots are #### - not crisp, and 2/3 aren't even round.

kjohn, good plan with the cheap batts. I'm real careful but also getting older so maybe my next move will be that direction.
As for the 'fuzzy dots', I have several amazon red-dots and none are fuzzy . . . but I also have had corneal replacements so "New eyes" of sorts. I like the "Circle-dot" reticles for quick acquisition of 'paint-can sized' targets but a 3-MOA Dot ends up ca 4-5" accuracy at 50 with 6-o'clock holds. Not my idea of accuracy, but for $40-50 still does 'the job'.

Feyachi V30

I like the features to dollar ratio of this budget dot, but I find the parallax to be quite noticeable. Did I get a dud or do you also see a few inches of eye shift at 25 yards on the V30? By comparison I see none on the romeo5 (@ 3x the price).

I think the Bushnell trs25 is as low as I would go
Holosun used to be the answer to this question but I think they start at $350 now?

THIS is the only choice. The TRS25 is crap and not worth the asking price.

There are loads of YouTube reviews and guntubers singing the praises of the Romeo5.

What don't you like about the TRS25? My experience is limited, but my buddy has had one on his 10/22 for years at this point and it works fine as long as you remember to turn it on.

My primary biatch was that mine was not bright enough for use outside on a sunny day. Couldn't see the dot. Kinda makes it useless.

Honestly once you go to auto-off, shake awake and a 50,000 hr battery life, anything less is a non-starter. Turning stuff on and off SUCKS.

I don't know how good the new ones are, but I have an older one...10+ years that is still going. It's been on and off pistols, rifles, currently sitting on a 12g shotgun, definitely durable.

Only thing sort of wore out is the hex screw, I need to find another one to replace it.

Bushnell mailed me a free bolt years ago when mine got stripped out.... I hear things are in disarray with Bushnell Canada, but it's worth a quick email to Bushnell USA with your address included....

Set it and forget it. What I do with my reddots. Turn them on at the start and don't shut it off till I'm done.

Well that's the thing, a mechanical dial is not just turn it on and shut it off. It's remember where you last set it, turn it all the way there, then when done turn it all the way to off again. Usage wears on the rotary rails, the rotating resistor board (or whatever it is called?) and are more prone to dropsy breaking the ability to adjust brigtness (rather than just a water seal on a battery compartment). Push buttons with auto-off is more durable imo.

I picked up a mint shape used Vortex Crossfire Red dot for $120.
Normally I think Vortex is junk and if you look beyond the crappy tiny 3mm fasteners and thin aluminum mounts that only engage the minimum # of threads its a great budget RDS.

Mounted on an 870 it works great so far.

Intensity setting has to be above 7 to see the dot,but according to the chatter about these, it's the way it is

Battery life on some of these red dots is crazy, 50000 hrs at mid brightness.
Over 5 years of being on 24/7 fot the cheapo Vortex crossfire
