recommend a good .45 ACP please?

1911 all the way for me but if you are not into them I did own a Glock 21 for awhile. Glocks are great guns but generally I can take them or leave them but have to say for some reason I really enjoyed shooting the 21. It was just too expensive for shooting paper and steel so I ended up selling it.

So far I heard lots of different opinions.
Someone says 1911s are always the choice. Colt is good.
Someone says a sig 226 will do. Also Springfield xdm is good enough.
Now I’m more undecided than before.
As for ergonomics, my hands are average size. I can handle a glock 17 easily, but struggle a bit with ruger mark iv hunter.
To that end, 1911 might be a good solution since it has slimmer framework?
I’m eyeing a dan Wesson vigil 1911. I felt it in my hand, its good and aesthetically appealing. But just expensive.
I’m afraid glock 21 grip might be too thick

Best shooting is a CZ 97 ! They shoot amazing and because of the low axis of the barrel and slide the recoil is by far the easiest to manage. Plus one of the few that comes 10 rounds standard

Best thing you can do, if you have access to one, is a range that rents firearms, or a friend who owns some of the types you are considering. Picking up a gun is fine, but shooting it is much better. It will give you a better sense of grip, how it fits your hand, how it points for you, recoil impulse etc..

1911 style guns are great for trigger action and how they point for you. Sig P220 in which ever trigger configuration(DA/SA or SA only) are great. Too bad the Glock 21 might be too big for your grip, the softest shooting .45 I have ever owned.

Good luck with the search.

Buy a good used Norc 1911 , and go from there . It is tough to beat a used Norc 1911 as they are a very robust pistol for the money .

The newer Norinco 1911's(within the last 15 years, anyways), have a very good plus, fit, finish, and accuracy. Yes, very good plus.

And a trigger pull that will greatly improve the strength of your index finger.

45 acp = 1911

Dan Wesson , Springer or Colt

I've owned three Dan Wesson 1911s and they are great pistols, and although expensive are well worth it. Regarding hand size, I've got small hands, and the only big .45 I've ever had an issue with was the CZ97—with factory grips I literally could not reach the DA trigger. Slim grips helped some, and the SA reach was no problems. I've owned or own a lot of other big .45 pistols like the Glock 21 and the H&K USP and Mark 23 and shot all of them well, even if they were on the large-gripped side. I think all of the pistols mentioned in the thread here would be good choices, and, as OCanada mentions above it'd be best if you had a chance to try some out. If you can't, just do lots of research and take your best shot, so to speak. I've bought lots of pistols without ever trying them and have rarely been disappointed. In addition to my P220 review I mentioned earlier, I've also posted threads on the FNX Tactical, the Mark 23, the CZ97B, and the Dan Wesson CCO and Heritage.

Something to consider I haven’t heard mention with 1911s is their weight. Close to 40oz dry. Add a loaded 8 round mag of 45s and you’re pushing three pounds. Smaller statured people struggle with holding the gun on target.

My experience is the opposite. An old girlfriend years ago liked my 1911 because she found the weight made it easy to shoot. Same with my kid who shot it recently. But you are absolutely correct that they may not be able to hold it on target for all that long. Honestly, that hasn’t seemed to impact their accuracy negatively. Personally, I just find a 1911 an easy gun to shoot, like a CZ or BHP.

When I take a newer shooter out to try different guns I always take a 1911 along in case they want to try it. I've never had someone say "I don't like that, its too big." Everybody loves a 1911. My mom likes shooting it, my wife likes shooting it despite being an anti. "Maybe one more mag, then you can have it back."

My kids like shooting them with the exception of my youngest daughter, she only likes shooting bows.
