I'm looking for a good electric knife sharpener. I already have the Ken Onion Worksharp and I'm not impressed with it. The guide system on it has too much room for changing angle while pulling the blade along the belt and I find it hard to maintain keeping the knife in the proper position as you start into the round headed for the tip. I either need a new style sharpener or a knife sharpening for dummies book.

Good electric sharpeners are expensive $400 plus , the ones with water cooled wheels and guides(Canadian tire sells one). If your doing smaller knives and not that often a Lansky sharpener or something similar will leave a good edge. I have a set of cheap diamond stones to set the edge on a buggered knife and wetstones to put a fine edge on them followed by a strop loaded with polishing compound to get the best edge possible for my hunting knives.

I wpuld honestly buy a couple of cheap knives and some wet stones and practice sharpening by hand. Its a skill that you can take anywhere for life. Plus if shtf....

Yup electric sharpener, to me would be like taking a disk grinder to my good tools.

Don't use an electric sharpener on any knife you care about. An Edgepro sharpening system will put an incredible edge on your knife, allows you to keep or adjust the factory grind angle, even on dramatically curved blades, while removing only the fatigued steel from the knife edge. it allows you to thin blades which from repeated sharpening are now too thick to take an edge. I use the Edgepro Professional model, which I've paid for by sharpening other people's knives. Its less expensive than a high quality electric knife grinder, and produces a superior edge. With just a little practice you will be able to see reflections in the sharpened edge.

I use the original. Great for establishing the edge profile but I find I need to use the Lanksy after to complete the edge. Belt makes a convex edge. I like to flatten it out.

I don't have an electric, I use these and they keep all my knives razor sharp https://www.edgemaker.com/sections/products/ProductDetail.aspx?prod_id=18

I have the ken onion work sharp, I don't use it because of several reasons...it sharpens the blade going up on one side and going down on the other so it makes the edge unbalanced, like the OP I think there is too much play in the angle adjustments, and it just feels cheap to me.
