So, yeah... I have been looking online at different options Swarovsli, Zeiss, Leica , Vortex.... so on and so forth. Would like to know what you guys think, I'm looking for something compact and easy to carry with out sacrificing to much quality. Oh and good bang for your buck. cheers!

I have a set of Swarovski EL 8.5x42. Excellent glass and I am by no means rich or even 'well off'. Good glass is worth saving for and getting exactly what you want. I bought them just for tourny archery but now use them for everything. They probably get used around the house looking at critters in the fields and yard 5x per week. I glass fields with them scouting deer etc etc. Bite the bullet $ wise once and never look back. Take care of them and they will last forever.

I have some Leica 8X32s which are quite light, but very bright still even though the objective lens are "only" 32mm. Very nice glass.

This might sound odd, but check out some of the bird watching chat boards... those tree / bunny hugger types sure know their binoc specs.

If your one a budget, I would suggest a pair of Vortex Diamondback binos. I bought a set and absolutely love them. They were almost permanently strapped to my chest for the whole hunting season.

The cost me just under $250 at a local shop. My hunting partner's Nikon Monarch ATB binos cost him just over $100 more than mine, and we both came to the conclusion that both binos were of the same quality. Great light transmission, easy to focus, great edge-to-edge performance, nice clear glass.

A very good value for the glass you get. I'm sold on Vortex optics for quality at reasonable prices from now on.

I bought a pair of open-box 8x42 Minox HG's from cameraland at half price. Love'em.

I have a pair of Minox 6.5x32IF (individual focus) that I really like for the image quality and compact size. I think they are really good for what I paid (CameraLandNY, keen prices, great service) and they have given me a very positive opinion of Minox.

But I have a Bushnell 7x50 that looks to me like 1970s style and for the $5 I gave on E-bay, they are possibly the best value for money in binoculars I'll ever see.

I like my Steiners.
I have an ancient pair of Predator Pros, this one isn't made anymore but I like them.

This will depend a lot on your price range.
Leica, Swaro ... can set you back couple of thousand.
Something decent can be had for 400 - 600.
With optics though you get what you pay for.

The Swarovski CL 8x30 or 10x30's are a great new option: compact, EL-style design and ergonomics, brilliant optics and at a more reasonable price.

I currently have the CL 8x30's on promo for $899 and the CL 10x30's are on for $979.

The Minox BL 10x44's have been well received and the pricing is also very reasonable at $499 in Canada.

The new Leica Trinovids, designed as a premium entry-level bino, are also well priced with the 8x42's listing at $1,449 and the 10x42's at $1,499.

And there are plenty of other options - you really need actually test out different brands and models, preferrable when the light is fading.

Cheers for the advice guys, im kinda partial to Swarovski & leica. just checked out some Steiners, the seem very nice as well. I think I will take a little time and save up a little longer, buy want I want once. I might check out some Minox as well, but i do know if there is a dealer in town.

To save another post...if I may be so bold to highjack this thread, but my question follows the OP question...

Has anyone had a chance to use something like the Bushnell ARC binoculars/range-finder units? I'd love to pick up a decent pair but would really like to include a range finder in them as well.

I have a pair of Zeiss EDF 7x40 that are 27 year old. Still work like new ones. Zeiss, Swaro and Leica would be my only choice if I were to buy new binos.
