I have two VERY MAJOR goals which I'm working toward right now; I'd like to reward myself with a hunting trip as a reward on the accomplishment of each. The second goal will take me approximately 3 years to achieve. I've already decided that my celebration trip will be to Africa (in 4 or 5 years), for plains game, possibly Cape Buffalo, and a photo safari to view elephant, rhino, lion, giraffe etc. This post isn't actually about THAT hunt.
My first, nearer goal will be complete about this time next year. I'd like to do a celebratory hunt for that as well, so I'm likely looking at a 2015 fall booking. I'm thinking either elk or sheep, and would really like a horseback outfitted trip, though would also consider a fly-in trip for sheep, especially Dall sheep in the Yukon or Alaska.
I'd like to hear from those who have done such trips; what was your experience like, where, what outfitter, accolades and curses, the whole works. Basically a who/what/when/where/why of hunts of this type.
