Just looking for a recommendation for a decent value in either a reflex (preferred) or red dot sight for grooved rimfire receiver. I've got a couple of plinkers I'd like to just slap something on. Iron sights are starting to be less effective for me, same with little rimfire scopes.

Not sure if you would need something like a " 3/8" Dovetail To Picatinny Rail Adapter " , and then put on something like a Bushnell TRS25. Anyways, with that rail adapter your options are limitless.

Rail adapter is the way to go for sure, have you tried Red Dot's before Grouse Man?

First one I got years ago, I thought it was defective.... turned out it was me! Asigmatism... I've learned to live with a less then perfectly round dot..... :)

Contacts or corrective glasses will solve that problem: cool::cool:

Bushnell trs25 is the defacto affordable red dot. In sale they can be had for a little over $100. I've got some cheap stuff (ncstar and crosspoint) and they're so much worse than the bushnell - dot isn't as crisp and they are much larger in size. I also like the vortex crossfire red dot, very similar to the bushnell trs25, but a 2moa dot vs 3 on the bushnell.

Cabelas has a Persuit brand dot, looks to be in the same ballpark as the bushnell and vortex that I wanted to try. They were on sale for $80 last week or the week before, but I forgot to buy one before the sale ended. I wouldn't pay regular price though, I'd just get the bushnell at that point.

I had to buy some cheap reading glasses last year so I could "read the small print"..... I've had a pretty good half century of good vision but things change.

It's amazing what's available for eye care and even more amazing what's coming down the tech super highway for medical advancement.... I'm not horny to get a neural link but the fact it's being done and how they are doing it is literally mind blowing.

I like red dots as far forward as possible. This style rail may be good for that.

I've used a Ruger PC with one, really liked it.

They are nice for sure, and so many options these days from red dot, holo sights with open and closed emiters, prisms.

There are some nice options for mounting on shotgun rails as well.

Vortex is a good brand to buy used as the offer good warranty support to any owner.

Flip up caps are a nice option for hunting.

You say you have a grooved receiver, grooved as in I can put a picatinny rail on it to mount an optic, or does your rimfire allow you to directly mount an optic, as in the pistol has a built in rail already? If the latter, I would suggest a Vortex Venom, Holosun 407/507 series or maybe a Burris Fastfire 3, all are excellent pistol optics and affordable. Hell, even if you have to mount a rail go with one of these, in my opinion a TRS-25, HOLOSUN 403 type sight are just too bulky for a .22 pistol, but that’s just my opinion, you do you :)

It reads more like a typical 3/8" rim fire grooved receiver on a long gun to me.... the fast fire's are nice little optics that can be found used for reasonable prices.... I've never dealt with Burris for warranty but they are lifetime/transferable.

Ah yes, my mistake, I read it as a pistol for some reason lol. I’ve never dealt with Burris warranty either but a couple of friends have and say they are awesome. In that case I would recommend a Holosun 403 series, a Vortex Strikefire/Crossfire/Spark or even an Sig Romeo 5. I own and use each of these on different rifle platforms and all are good to go :)

Feyachi V30 less than $70 on amazon better than the TRS-25 imho. I have three of then now and they have worked perfect even on shotguns.

Have you turned down the intensity of the dot, that sometimes helps

It can help for sure, I also notice differences depending on the lighting conditions for some reason and often the dot looks fine, maybe not perfectly round but not flared enough to really cause any issues.... sometimes blinking a couple of times will make a difference?

Even at it's worst, it doesn't throw off my aim by enough to make a difference shooting off hand and plinking targets that's for sure.

I can't remember who it was, but during shot show I was watching some content and the person claimed cheap red dot's whole sale prices were maybe $10-$20 US or something wild like that, clearly they have figured out how to make them affordable!

I have a Volquartsen extended rail added to my 10/22 TakeDown to allow forward mounting of a Burris FastFire. I really like the set up for birds and hares in the bush but I have been hit with the astigmatism. Now in search of a true 1X with a compact design. Kicking myself for not grabbing a Leupold Prismatic when they were still around.

I'll second the vote for the Feyachi ( $55 - http s://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01HPWATOC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 ) that jahnj suggested. I have one on my Sav-64 for the past 3-4 years, Great for quick shots at 25 and OK for 50-yd ca 3" grp. Depends on what you want to shoot at. I have a 4x Weaver scope on another 64 that does ca 0.6-ish @ 50 with good ammo.

Hawke makes a 25 and 30mm 11mm dovetail reddot that is like the TRS 25. Smaller the dot the better.

My only issue with cheap RDS is when you get to the range turn them on and keep it on. The brightness knobs on several TRS 25 clones stopped working, when I would turn it off when it was time to change targets, to conserve battery power.
