I just picked up a used Marlin 3030 on EE Christmas Day, my first Lever. It includes an older fixed 4x Tasco but I am sure I will be replacing that. I've always liked my bushnell 1.75 to 4 on the muzzleloader so I am leaning towards a lower powered scope. Looking forward to doing some research over the holidays so let me know your advice..thanks.

That old Tasco isn't a slouch, don't be too quick to tawss it.
I've got as suggested above with the smaller Leupolds.
Might even be a 2-7x28 awn mine.

A great little scope that you seldom hear of is the weaver classic V 1-3x20. It's a modern weaver, not one of the oldies and it's made in Japan. Quality wise it's about on par with the vx-1, maybe 2, or the bushnell elite. Glass is good, and has very generous eye relief and eye box. It's very compact and light weight too.

Vx2 2-7x33 is a great option as mentioned, and another scope family I really love is the 1.5-6x40, if you want a bigger lens. Mine is a Nikon monarch gold, it's fantastic.

Magnification ranges that people consider muzzle loader scopes are in my opinion the ones best suited for most big game rifles and hunting situations.

Really? I ran a trs-25 on a marlin guide gun for a cpl years with no issues
I'm still running a Bushnell Trophy red/green dot after ten years on my 45/70 guide gun. I love it for thick bush and running deer when the dogs are tongueing!

Your older tasco might be made in Japan... I'd probably keep it on there.
I have a Japanese Banner 1.5-4x20 on mine, but might up to a 2-7x32 Elite... Not sure yet

I've got two lever actions and done quite a bit of online research on different forums. Passed hunting experience, based on my needs, hunting environment and hunting shots under 100 yards on my property I will be going with a Leupold VX-3i 1.5x5x20mm. It has great low light management at dawn and dusk even with a 20mm OB, weights 9.3oz and a fantastic warranty service.

Now I'll be waiting for Sail to have their usual 15% off their hunting supplies and use my gift certificates.

I agree Looky.

I have an older Marlin 30-30 here with a Tasco 4x on it that my father used to take a couple deer with in later years and our old gunsmith friend had used it before Dad bought it from him. The glass in those older Japan made scopes is good. In fact I have used the extended eye relief scopes on hard kicking contender barrels without issue.

thanks for the responses. The rifle and scope showed up, it is a "made in Taiwan" Tasco 4 x 32. I dated the rifle to 1986, assume the scope could be of the same age? I think I will replace it with one of the suggestions above like the leupold 1.5 5o 5.
