Hi,

What do you guys use to store your ammo? I'm looking at a dry box that seals with o rings and has pad locks. I was originally going to use surplus ammo cans but they can't be locked.

I forgot to specify this is just for storage at home. In the future, they are going to a pass a law that will require us to lock ammo up?

^ No to the ammo law.
I bought some lock kits for standard ammo cans in the states. Never seen them here though.

The Ammo Law was proposed by the Tories no? But after LGR they decided not to? Or what's the deal? Regardless, I still need something to store all the ammo securely.

Putting a lock on an ammo can is simple. Drill a 1\2 hole, Take a 1/2 X1" long bolt. Drill a 1/4 hole thru the bolt near the end. Stick the bolt thru the hole in the ammo can from the inside out, put a nut on the bolt, close it up and put a padlock thru the bolt. It may need some filing for a smooth fit.

i use a stack on 8-gun cabinet with shelves, its not airtight nor is it waterproof, and thats the way i want it. If somehow your ammo is exposed to an ignition source an airtight container would probably cause more harm than a vented one.

for at home i use a old portable tool chest that has a lock on it. for range/bush trips i just use ammo cans. i havent figured out a way to lock the ammo cans, but im thinking maybe just a simple folding latch (usualy used for gates and doors), welding it on the can and use a simple dollar store padlock.

I remember a thread here where someone drilled a hole in an ammo box and fitted a trigger lock through the hole. I thought it was kind of a cool and cheap way to lock it.

I pick up the "Fat Max" tool boxes from CT when they are on sale. They have a nice seal around the lid and come in two sizes.

I saw a skid at Le Barons a while ago for $10 each that were like new. Princess Auto usually has them, but quality can be iffy. Usually when they go on sale they wheel the good ones back into the warehouse and bring out the ones that they dug up out of a field somewhere.

large black painted steel box at Walmart. bigger than a toolbox, holds lots, can be locked. oh ya, real cheap ($15?).

I want something with the O-ring seal to keep moisture out. I'm going to try the MTM .50 Cal Ammo Cans. Same specs as the metal ones, but made out of polypropylene and 3 lbs lighter empty. Come with 2 padlocks, O ring, stackable, and handle.
