Recommend an inexpensive 3-9X (ish) scope for M14

If you are on a budget, this is where I would start (or the 3200 3-9x40)
Redfield 4-12X is one mine.
It gets used regularly and often
Beautiful piece, super clear glass, maybe the perfect optic for a scoped M14
$289 and I might have overpaid.....but it's well worth it either way.
And I've dropped the entire rifle from waist height onto concrete (by accident) with it landing on the top of the scope......nooooo problemo

For $30 less you can get the 3-9x40.
I have a 3-9x50 3200 on mine right now, but Redfield is all I have bought for the last 9 mo. I have 4 of them
all 4-12x40....IMHO the Redfield is the VERY best deal in an optic on the market today.
It won the 'best new optic in 2010' award from the NRA...... Just FYI
Not surprised. Every person on the range who has looked through it always says "it's so clear & bright"

If youre on a BUDGET then vortex diamondback. $200- better optical quality than the leupolds in its price range and at par with others
if youre on a budget then the minox 1.5-8x for $500 - awesome optical quality for the price range and light(these things are heavy enough) its what I put on mine

Have you personally used this optic on the m14?
Vortex Viper. Like one of the others said, if your M14 eats it, you get a new one. Their warranty is top notch. If its clearly broken (apparently even if you run it over with a truck), they hand you a new one in the store. Personally I'm on my 3rd one now, and not because of the scope. I think I paid less than 300 for mine.

Vortex has an incredible warranty and customer service should you happen to have the scope grenade on you. I know alot of people say the scope should be good enough to not need a warranty that good...but we're talking budget stuff here, and 
happens even with higher priced gear. Their scopes ain't half bad either. I run an old Crossfire 8-32x50 on my 93r17 TR and I have a 6-18x44 Crossfire II on the way for my .223 FCP-K. If I ever scope my M305 it will be a Vortex too, right now it's wearing a Vortex SPARC red-dot.

I've done probably about 300 rounds with the 3-9 banner on, mostly 100 yard shooting. There was a guy on this forum, Rednex I think he called himself, witnessed me do a 1.5 inch group with that bad boy at the port alberni shoot while I was dicking around. I'm not like a pro shooter, I just have an accurate gun. It's also not a shorty because I have to compensate for having a small truck

The average group is usually 1.25-2 inches
