My PAL should be coming any day now... so Im wondering what shotgun I should get. Im kinda set on either the Rem 870 tactical or the M4.

Whats more fun to shoot?

Do what I did after I got my PAL; get an 870 Police. It's loads of fun to shoot. It's very reliable. It has no mag limit. There is no barrel restriction (if you keep the overall length over 26 inches, although I'm not sure on the exact rule). Cleaning is easy as hell. On the 870P, it is easy to add on accessories such as after market fore-ends, stocks, lights, side saddles, etc. Not so easy (and not as inexpensive I would imagine) to do with the M4. The 870 is a far more popular shotgun than the M4, and because of this you're going to find you can do more with it if you want to customize it.

Yep, first shotgun get an 870. You can buy kits with a combination of barrels, theres lots of accesories for them, and easy to maintain. Do a search and find out what model will suit your needs.
*edit*didn't read your question completely, get the 870 tactical!

the 870 p guns are made to a higher standard then most of the basic 870, i do not know if the tactical is from tje express line or the police line.
remington has come out with more options for 870 i nthe last 2 year then in the last 10.
Hard to keep up.
buy a 870 then pimp it out with the options that work for you.

barrels, stocks, fore ends, shell side saddles, mag extensions, springs, trigger components, sights, heat shields, slings.
You name it someone makes it for an 870

What is the difference between 870P and Tactical?

The 870 Police Magnum is based off of the (Remington's top-of-the-line) Wingmaster model. The 870 Tactical Magnum is based off of the Express line of shotguns. The Police Magnum is build with the highest quality parts, and is built and inspected much more carefully than the other 870 versions. It is no wonder that the Police line is the most expensive line of 870 shotguns.

I have no idea what standards the Tactical Magnum are built to, because it seems like it is a fairly new model. My guess is that the Tactical model is built to higher standards than the Express line, but not higher than that of the Police model, but I am really not sure.

Anyways, here is a letter by Remington explaining the differences between the Express & Police lines if you're interested.

870 hands down! I've owned a few different ones, and still have one. I also use them at work and have never let me down regardless of what I'm using it for. These guns are by far the best thing since sliced bread. They are cheap to buy, dime a dozen if you want a used one and there are more toys to buy for it than you can shake a stick at! I'm thinking of getting another and pimping it out 6 ways from sunday just for the heck of it.

870 !!!!!

I would take a single shot .410,
to learn how to shoot a shot gun and hunt birds with.
maybe you find out you don't need another.

I have had a lot of fun with a single shot .410 and within range it is a killer. But I do have two 870's a 12 and a 20 gauge and they are the ultimate working man's repeating shotgun.

I'm mostly a rifle guy, but when it came time to get a shotgun, it ended up being two, old, beat up 870 wingmasters .... They won't win any beauty contests, but they sure are "workhorse" shotguns !

Get a Standard 870, don't worry about looks just yet, grab a case of winchester target loads and bust some clays. The rest will take care of itself.
