I was using 143 ELDX and 140 ELDM. For our deer the 140ELDM is quite good as it expands quick which helps with neck shots. Smallish deer and high grass means often only head/neck visible. I mostly go for high heart lung shot under the spine. Even with the 140 ELDM we have just about always an exit.

6.5 calibres are definitely capable of taking the bigger game. I shot one of my moose with my 6.5 PRC around 80 yards away it went around 20 yards and took a few minutes to tip over but it definitely was effective but if you are looking for something else I agree with the vanguard as an option or the Howa 1500. Another option is just to watch the Equipment exchange.
 
Back to the subject at hand. The tikka is a phenomenal option though recoil can be a bit rough in the larger calibers.
The howa 1500 and Weatherby Vanguard are also great options for great accuracy without being too high in price. Haven't had experience myself but cva cascade and Ruger American gen2 also get pretty decent reviews.

Moose are not too hard to kill. Put a well built bullet in the boiler room and they will tip over often without even knowing they have been hit lol.

I can tell you for a fact the 156 Norma and the 160 Seirra SMP drop both moose and deer with authority. I doubt very much if there would be an issue with elk.

Best is whatever you want it to be. Perfectly capable past 500 yards is the reality.

Ahhh, so you need a different bullet for the poor shots. You need a 7mm grenade to take the head clean off? Most people I know seem to aim for vitals, or don’t shoot. It’s called hunting ethics.

I’d hunt anything in North America with a 6.5 creed, except for maybe grizzly and bison. It has limitations as far as distance goes, but a totally capable cartridge.
 
6.5 can kill moose and elk. So can a 243....30 cal is better though.
Imo, buy a 303 if really on a budget.....or a 308, or 30-06. More plentiful options for guns and ammo is cheap and available everywhere.

I shot a moose at nearly 300 yards with a 178gn ELD-X out of a 30-06. That moose sure went down but what a mess it did to the meat and I didn’t even touch bones… I can’t imagine if o would of hit a big bone! I will not use them again!

ELD-XGrenade.

It won't make quite the wound that something like a Partition does but I've enjoyed the 175gr LRX. Much the opposite of your experience there
