Hey optics Nuts,

I know next to nothing about scope bases so please bear with me.

I have a Zastava M85 in 7.62x39 with a Bushnell 4-12x40 scope on it. I have Amazon rings on it, they are beefy but the scope creeps after a few dozen rounds. I plink with it and shoot plates and exploding targets so it's never bothered me, however this fall we want to try deer hunting so I'd like to have something more solid.

Can anyone recommend some decent rings, the base I have is picatinny and I'm looking for low rings. The rifle cost me $400 and I'm not looking for bench rest solid, just something I can set and forget and carry around in the woods.

Also should I be lapping the mounts or is that overkill?

Thanks!
G

Are you sure the scope is actually moving (creeps after a few dozen rounds) ? Your scope (s) may just not be holding zero or you may have parallax issues your not aware of but likely you are on the right track as most issues you describe often have to do with how the scope is mounted. Lapping rings is just part of a careful scope mounting and is seldom not a major issue but like having correct torque settings on the rings screws and base screws (if you have any). 7.62x39 is a modest caliber and seldom causes scope movement due to the modest recoil. Most modern steel ring designs have more than enough gripping power for your application. Phil.
