Recommend some good boots.

ya i know this has been done to death before, but im lazy to search it, new models may have come out and so on and so forth.

anyways i have a set of muck woody max boots, size 12 or 13 i think? THEY SUCK! I walk 50 feet and my feet kill, they hurt my legs and my calves barely fit in them, and most of all my feet are constantly freezing cold in them. I've tried one pair of thick wool socks, a couple pairs of thinner wool socks...I've mixed and matched tons of socks, my feet still hurt and are still cold. last year i bought some heated insoles and that helped slightly.

looking to spend no more than $350, i use them for moose and deer in the winter, i have to cross small streams, ditches and walk muddy fields. so whats everybody got on their feet this season?

I've had these Irish Setter snow claws for 5 years. They also make ones with laces. Warm an waterproof.
 
I've been wearing "Daner" boots for a while now. Comfortable, water proof and they come with different insulation weights for those long brush walks in the winter.

Highly recommended.
 
I am going with Lacrosse Aerohead Sport 3.5mm this fall. Very light and comfy, we'll have to wait and see how they hold up.

I have Danner Pronghorns, wore them for a couple seasons. They are a quality boot but the sole is stiff as a board and i can not walk far in them, the sole is hard as wood.
 
I had a pair of Daner before. very comfortable. The only problem is they use PU to make some parts. It will last only few years and its gone. I'd never choose anything made of PU.

Edit... Sorry, this is a poor answer to your question.

I have used Sorrel for winter work and play and long treks into the mountains with snowshoe or on trail. Bought spare liners for multi day stuff.

From the way you describe the foot and leg pain I would visit a good chiropodist to see if you have any foot issues. You may need orthotics to go with your new boots.
I was experiencing foot, calf and leg pain years ago. And sure enough I needed a custom orthotic. No more painful issues since using them. I have the Irish Setter boots pictured. Good boots, not 100% water proof, better for stand sitting than walking. I have found any boot that keeps your feet warm with lots of insulation such as felt liners etc. does not provide the support and close fit for a lot of walking. Personally I like a close fitting light boot for walking. Back in my dogging days I wore LLBean insulated hunting shoes. The ones with the rubber bottoms and leather tops. When your doing a lot of walking your generating the body heat to keep your feet warm. It is the stopping and sitting that get you cold. I find boots are a real personal preference item. What suits me you may hate and vise versa, plus some folks have better circulation than others.

You're a smart man. i do actually have custom orthotics already and tried those in my boots last year also. part of my problem is that the sole on my woody max's are stiff as a board. sounds like ill be trying out some irish setters. however, like you said, i do a lot of both walking and stand sitting so im hoping i can find something to suite both my needs. when moose hunting we spend a lot of time in trucks, then a lot of time walking. it also takes me upwards of 20 mins to walk to my deer stand through rough fields. then sitting for several hours.
 
after researching irish setter boots, they seem to have terrible reviews. even on their own site. so ive decided on a set of danner powderhorn 10" 1000g. anybody have these? or know anybody that does? im hoping to order them soon. hopefully these work out better than the mucks i have.

I don't understand how they could be so poorly reviewed. I've been using the same pair for 15 years and they still look good. And they get used. Hunting , ice fishing and walking the dog on very cold days. I have no doubt my next pair will be Irish setters.

maybe their quality has dropped. over half of the reviews for the model i liked were negative, and very negative. most people saying they lasted a month or less.
 
Both Danner and Irish Setter have boots that come in narrow widths. Their "D" widths are sometimes generous and I require the narrow "B".
The Elk Hunter Irish setter is substantial although I never owned them.
The Danner Fort Lewis is similar and a friend had a pair.
If required for really cold weather the 1000 grams of Thinsulate would be desirable and the 400's are the most I require.
 
IMO, you cannot hunt several days with one pair of boots. I always have two pair, regardless of accommodations/heat source.

That said, I have a pair of Danner Canadians but they were $550 last price I saw. But awesome boot! I have two pair of Acadians, but they are warm weather-ish and the goretex liner in one has failed. I also have a pair of Rocky 1000 g thinsulate that have proven very good.

I have a set of Muck neoprene Chore boots, but can only wear a half day then they need another 24 hours to dry. Same with my lacrosse boots.

If you want comfortable waterproof boots that your feet will not hurt in....check out Lacrosse Aerohead 7mm.
They have a nice sole that is not stiff and they feel like a snug enough fit for walking.
Wear a good warm sock.
 
I can comment on the Irish Setter reviews. IR boots used to be a good value mid-level boot, until they moved production overseas. Then the quality took a dive and the bad reviews began. I've had a few of the good old ones and a couple of the newer off shore sets. Never again!

Currently doing my best to wear out some Cabela's version Meindl's chasing moose and elk around - uninsulated Denali's for early season and 400gr Perfekt's for later season. I like!!!

If 400gr insulation might work for you, they're blowing out last year's version for $250 with free shipping. This includes return shipping if they don't fit.
