I am also going to put a plug in for Danners. I have 2 pair, and the older pair is 10 years and still going strong.
Bought a newer, higher topped pair 2 years ago...600 gms of Thinsulate, [Danner Canadians] and they are great!!
Good boots are not inexpensive, but worth every penny!! Dave.

What's the best Danner to buy? They have a bunch of different models to choose from and looks like it's online only. The insulated Elk looks pretty good.

Can anyone with Irish Setter elk trackers give me some feedback on different insulation options? I've found some 200g and 1000g insulates models on sale for the 1000g model is only $14 more than the 200g, how hot do you find them both? I know some of you have both, I'm in the north Okanagan so we see snow and cold in the winter. This year saw a lot of snow and the coldest it got was -28deg, I always wear a wool sock and my feet tend to be warm anyway. I don't want to be sweating in them but I'd rather be warmer than cold, I'm in varying terrain. From lower rolling meadows to higher mountain and alpine areas. When I'm not hunting I hike and snowshoe a fair bit all year round.

They better then the all leather models? Good ankle support?
Really surprised no one has mentioned Gore Tex Red Wings.
I have used them exclusively for the past 12 years for both work and hunting. They are absolutely waterproof to the top of the boot and my current pair are 4 years old and I wear them everyday for work. Granted I only work a 40 hour a week job now instead of 80+ but even then I was getting at least 3+ years out of them with daily use.
They are available winter lined also and are very durable and very comfortable.
Granted mine have steel toes but I have done a couple of hunts and hundreds of work hours in -30 or less. If its really, really cold, like below -30 you can easily stick a Toe Warmer on the inside top of the steel toe to keep your lower digits toasty.
