recommendation for bolt action .22

I recently purchased a Savage Arms MkII G, bolt action 22 and love it. I installed a Simmons 22 MAG 9 x 32 fixed magnification scope for $39. Very accurate, well made, love the rifle. Not stainless but Savage does offer stainless models. Do yourself a favour and buy an extra mag. I used weaver bases and low profile mid quality rings, centred the rings and zeroed it in with 3 shots.
You didn't say if you have a budget???
Try the Savage FVSS and then restock it with a Boyd's stock of your choice (+ DIP metal)...

We have the guns pictured below... they started as Savage FVSS models, but we then changed the stocks to Boyd's cut/crowned/threaded the barrels and installed Schuler brakes, ground and threaded the bolt handles for Liberty Tactical knobs, installed DIP metal and mounted BSA Contender scopes with Dura Sight Z2 rings... we are very happy with them;

Marlin 981T. Cheaper than the Savage. I love the tube magazine -loads fast and doesn't hurt my thumbs.
I just bought one and love it. Took it out to the range yesterday and did the shots below at about 75 yards (I put my target about halfways between the 50 and 100 berms thinking it would be a good range to zero it for gopher hunting). I was so proud of myself, I posted it on the fridge when I got home... then my girlfriend wrote something on it
Yep, that's a dime. Also, even if only four holes are obvious, it IS a five-shot group. I didn't even think I could shoot that well.

What is your budget?
My vote is for a CZ. I've never found stainless to be a issue with rimfires. How often do you take your .22 on a multi-day hunt when it's raining everyday? Really the only situation where stainless rocks.
If you have the budget for it the CZs are usually ever so slightly more accurate than the Savages and way superior in the fit and finish department. They are more expensive though, whether the cost is worth it to you is your call. The only plus of the Savage is the trigger is better out of the box, however a $18 shim kit makes for a trigger that is better than even the accutrigger.

I don't really have a budged but I think I would have a very hard time trying to justify paying more then 1K for a .22
I also noticed that a lot more options open up if I drop the SS requirement
Those are pretty nice looking guns you have, I'll definitely will look at savage
Is Savage made in US or somewhere off-shore ?

2 options I recommend
Ruger 77/22, gives you the 25 round mag (same as 10/22), very good option in the gopher fields. Feels like a centerfire, 3 position safety.
Look around and find a Brno Model 5, the least picky rimfire I own. Old world quality and killer accurate.

I love the 77/22 as well. Probably my favourite rifle that I've shot to date. you could definitely get a stainless one for less than $1000.
I only recommended the Marlin when I thought cost might be an issue. The Ruger is a very nice gun.
Savage rimfires are made in Lakefield, ON.
This. I have this gun, .22WMR though, and it is an amazing little rifle. The stock on this gun is damn near the perfect factory made stock imo. Also, you would be buying a Canadian made product.
