Hi Gents,

I bought PTG bottom metal for a Remington 700 in a McMillan stock. I'm looking a competent gunsmith to install it. I appreciate all suggestions. I'm hoping there's someone in the lower mainland that can do the job so I don't have to waste funds on shipping.

Cheers,

Mik

If the screws line up OK, you can do this yourself. Go to Can Tire and buy a small sanding drum kit or if you have a Dremel tool they too have a small sanding drum, and carefully sand out what is needed to allow the trigger guard to drop in. It is very simple to do if you are careful. If you do get carried away, you can always glass it back in with bedding compound. I modified an HS Prec thumbhole stock for a short 700, to fit my silhouette rifle which I built on a 788 action. I hogged out everything ahead of the rear action screw and completely reformed it for the 788 with bedding compound. I love working on composite stocks, mistakes are fixed in 24 hours, the time it takes for the bedding compound repair to set...........

I think the screws do line up. I also have the dremel tool, sanding drum and marine tex epoxy. I was a bit worried about doing irreparable damage to the stock. I'll give it the old college try and go slow. I don't think I need to take off a ton of material to get it to fit. Thanks, I appreciate the advice!
