My NR suggestions are as follows:
-T81 if you want a NR AK red rifle vibe
-Stag10 if you want a NR AR10 Semi-Auto Precision Rifle (SAPR) good for 800-1000m
-ATRS MS if you want a NR AR15, wait times are your enemy here though.
-M305 if you want a cheap to buy expensive to feed and build project gun
-Bushmaster ACR if you want to buy the rifle Magpul designed and Bushmaster has failed to market and deliver properly, but has tremendous potential.
-Desert Tech MDR, I know you said no more bullpups, but... while not here quite yet it is the first rifle to really offer something new, it has all the lost potential of the ACR's caliber conversions and the added potential by not only being stuffed in a bullpup format but also by allowing conversion kits to range from as small as .22lr all the way up to .308 based calibers.

Well then it sounds like you need either a Bushmaster ACR or a Robinson Armament XCR. The newest XCR's are way better than the previous generations.

You're notre really specific, there are tons of rifle in pistol calibers that could do the trick, ans it can also range from a good old sks to SLR or mordernsportster 3k build, without mentionning heavier cal. Options such as stag10, m1a, etc...
Mini-14 is a ####ty version of M1A in short action.

I think I have passed that Soviet Union AK style rile now, even it's still a really reliable and cheap rifle, same as T81.
I would definitely consider Stag 10, didn't realize it's a precision rifle from the picture, thought it's just like an AR with larger caliber.
I probably consider ATRS later in the future rifle from them and M305 isn't going to be my 2nd rifle, would try to build in or use ATRS in the future.
I know the ACR is quiet reliable, but the price is kind of high, not convinced for that cost yet.
MDR or Tavor 7 would be my next bullpup for sure. Need to see when RCMP approves it and how reliable it is when Desert Tech into the semi auto rifle business. And also the cost, if it's like $4000 for MDR, I would pass for sure.

Cheap used, reliable, takes STANAG mags, piston gun runs clean and doesn't need cleaning often.
It's not as accurate as an AR, shoots 2.5 MOA with American Eagle bulk ball. Shot off the bench, no bags, crappy conditions.
And you can mount a bayonet to really piss off the lefties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned a number of the rifles suggested and have a Tavor 21 .. excellent gun. My other choice is the FN AR in .308/7.62x51 It has been considered one of the most accurate semi auto rifles off the shelf . Some people complain about being hard to field strip but i found it was quite easy if you follow the directions. First time i took to the range it shot 1 inch group at 100 m [5 rd] and that was out of box cheap ammo. It has only gotten better. My 2 cents

Instead I went with an H & K SL8, mainly because right after "non-restricted" the next most important quality of a "black rifle" is accuracy potential.
Over the years I have owned several guns but the only ones I have kept shoot MOA or better.
That being said, if MOA potential is not an requirement my buddy has a Tavor that is very handy on the farm (bullpup design works great in farm equipment).

ACR for sure. Great gun. Might also want to consider a Famae 540 if you can find one... really under-rated rifle. I love mine.
Recent-production keymod XCRs with the light barrel are also decent. Cz858 is a bargain right now used, if C71 doesn't scare you.

Robinson Armament makes a wonderful rifle called the XCR. Purchase the 'L' model in .223, 6.5 Grendal, 6.8 SPC or 7.62x39. Add the different calibers with a simple bolt, barrel and shell deflector swap. Very accurate rifles and different barrel weight options to fine tune your needs. Folding stock, M-Lok, Key Mod or 1913 rail options. Match trigger or different color options available. Piston driven , so less cleaning but if needed they are super easy to field strip & clean. However they are not as light as a ARish rifle offered by Macabee or ATR....but close....can be within a lb with comparable parts. Why do you not want an ARish type rifle?

Same thought for caliber. But I am also waiting to see when Tavor 7 is out for Canada.
