Recommendations for a 22 target rifle

for accuracy a bolt action is the way to go from my experience. Guys at the range are getting results like mine or better in stock bolts but i paid 2g in aftermarket just to get there...if i was to do it all over again i would look at the savage upper end for sure. I would get a 10/22 and upgrade it in a more tactical fun shooter style for sure though, to date it's the rifle i use the most. I will eventually get a savage though this much i know for sure...in both .22lr and .308.

I'm trying to decide between a Savage Mark II TR and a BTVS. I guess it just comes down to preference at this point. Any benefit of a TR over BTVS?

I had a btvs, got rid of it and wound up getting a TR. I found the thumbhole just gets in the way when operating the bolt. Also the bigger bolt knob on the TR is great!

If you plan on being serious about it and want something you won't outgrow, Anschutz 1712 is the way to go. I speak from experience as I started off shooting a cz452 Varmint for smallbore silhouette and felt as though I had outgrown what the rifle could do for me after about 8 months. Picked up a 1712 and couldn't be happier. Money well spent.

image.jpgimage.jpgI shot this at 100 yards, 1022,Nordic chassis, aluminum barrel,Simmonds RDS,Spring loaded bipod.Using Rem golden bullits. First shot was a little rushed and high, next three were more relaxed. What would be considered accurate at 100 yards? I'm planning on magnification next and am thinking maybe a 1x4 scope, any thoughts on that, anyone? I think this is pretty good for a semi and could be better with magnification and a better shooter.

If you're going to shoot offhand I wouldn't recommend the BTVS. By the time you get a scope on it you're in the range of 9.5 lbs. That's a handful. Very nice bench gun though. They tend to be very accurate. I have an Anschutz 1913 and still have not been able to surpass my best results with my BTVS.

The supposed requirement for accuracy in silhouette shooting is somewhat exaggerated in my opinion. 90% depends on the skill of the shooter. Even the smallest silhouette target has a central area about 2 inches square. Hitting this is well within the capabilities of most half decent rifles. Unless you're an expert shot I wouldn't worry too much about small differences in accuracy.

Go to a competition and look at what the winners are shooting. Maybe try a few different guns to see. Many competitors have tried many gun and done a lot of the leg work for you. My choices are an Anschultz for the targets and a 10-22 or 597 for fun.

A idea after my last post, look up "my 22 shoots 1/2 in. thread. (Should be a sticky) There are some proven guns there.-not offhand though. I have a few 1/2 in. capable guns, but I have a hard time doing 5 5shot 1/2 in groups in a row. Shooter error not gun prob. :( - still fun to try!! good luck Aj

Hmmm recently seen a volquartsen 22 rimfire...carbon fibre barrel, etc etc...2,000 usa without scope well under .50 at 100 yards for 12 shots

The ns522 from canadaammo seems to be a sleeper target rifle. For the price you could get one and a ruger for the cost of an anshaultz

Some good reviews on the ns522 for accuracy with its target crown and bolt design(based on an Anshutz 54?)…..however, the craftsmanship on the stock (cutouts) and tool marks leaves something to be desired.
Even with a better stock (and a Ruger) it still won't be an Anshutz.

very accurate CIL 190

PM me if interested in this safe queen all original only front sight, one hole at 50 yards with decent ammo.

Last week I shot 5 rds. @ 50 meters into .325" grouping. This is the best that this 58 year old has ever done.

Norc ns522 cleaned up.

I have just ordered a second one, as a back up for parts.
These rifles are in a limited numbers. Part of a consignment to a American retailer that got locked out because of a change in the law.
I see only one supplier of these on this site.

I would second this recommendation.
