Hey everyone,

I was in the market for a .22lr pistol. I originally had my sights set on a Walther P22, but was later told that they are VERY unreliable and that i should get a CZ Cadet as they are the best .22lr pistols on the market.

Can anyone confirm this?

I later thought that the SIG P226 (but in 22lr) would be a good buy, but was again told that the CZ Cadet is a better choice.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

For the record, please dont recommend any ruger .22lr pistols as ive handled several and have not enjoyed the experience.

Thanks in advance,

D

I wouldn't recommend the CZ kadet cause eventually you'll want to get a larger calibre and then you'll need to buy another CZ if you like them. If you want to get a .22 that looks like a regular larger calibre pistol get the CZ 75 or 85 and then buy the .22 conversion kit for it. That way you get two calibres for a lessor price. The other .22 pistols I would recommend are the browning buckmark or the Beretta Neos U22.

i would consider the sig 226-22LR or the Mosquito too. but yea, the cz is a good choice. i shot the sp-01 shadow in 9mm, and it wasn't so bad. You can get the conversion kit and practice with the 22LR, switch to 9mm if you go the ipsc route.

I would totally considering buying the sp-01 plus conversion kit, or also the sig 226 plus conversion kit. (or i'll just get the springfield xdm) <---unrelated to this forum

thanks for the advice, but i would prefer a pistol that is strictly for .22lr. I already have a G17 and i plan on buying (later) a H&K USP .45

I have owned almost all of the .22 pistols there is. It is hard to beat a CZ Kadet. One other that is much cheaper but works great as well is the Smith & Wesson 22A. They are great guns for the dollar. I have thousands of rounds through my latest one with no issues, shoots any and all ammo as well as does the Cadet also. If you are thinking of a revolver get a S&W 17 or 617 you cannot beat those guns.

so what i heard about the Walther P22 true?

Also, how do the SIG P226-22 compare to the Kadet?

You can't go wrong with the CZ Kadet. I bought one in May and have about 1000 rds through it so far. It is not picky with ammo and handles just like any full size pistol. I did a lot of research and you could get a cheaper .22 and have to deal with all kinds of problems or you could get the CZ and be happy.

that is basically the consensus ive come to regard as fact based on what i have been told by others.

I just bought a Ruger Mk 3 22/45 with the replacable wood grip panels. Mimics the grip angle of a 1911. The research I did suggested Ruger Mk 1,2 or 3's will eat anything you feed them, possible exception of Remington. I was going to get a .22 conversion kit for my Sig 226 but they have issues as do a lot of the conversion kits. If I was going to buy a 'combat' type .22 I'd pick up a CZ Kadet. Expensive but really nice. My Ruger was $380, the Cadet is over $900. There are 2 Kadet's right now at Target Sports Canada, Gormley (site sponsor) One new and One used.

I'd echo the support for a Browning Buckmark unless you want to spend a lot of money. I bought one for my wife and she handles and balances it well, but it's a good looking .22 (5.5" bull barrell) which I enjoy shooting too. Utterly reliable and it was $319 last year in Canada!!

CZ Kadet is among the most solid steel construction .22 pistol out there. feel good; shoot good and look cool, it also has the last shot slide lock open feature which Sig don't have. follow your heart and buy what you like the most, bottom line is sell them if you don't like but at least you learn something.

Well im going to chime in on the U22 Neos pistol. I have one and its pretty nice, as to be expected with any Beretta. pretty accurate aswell altho im new to pistols and this isnt totally fitting me, but it has a good grip and a top rail for optics or the like.

get one of those GSG1911s, just under $400 + tax and everyone who has bought them on here has good things to say about the quality and reliability of it!
