I'm looking for a non-restricted black rifle. Seems like there are a lot of rumours and opinions about them.

Can anyone recommend something of quality that doesn't have a history of issues.

Mainly .223 but will look at .308 as well.

A Benelli MR1 can be had for less than that. A dealer on here was just selling new ones for $1599

I know the MR1 isn't the cool new kid on the block but they just plain work.

That's a good discount - normally they are 2k. Still, 'Maybe $1500' isn't 1600 plus tax.....

Every time I say I want to spend "X" amount of dollars I always end up spending more... that's just the way it works, for me anyways....

Or he could always watch the EE. I've seen them for +/- 1200

For $1500

-VZ58 in its original 7.62x39 caliber
-T97
-T81
-WK180
-5 or 6 SKS depending on EE pricing
-probably some keltec abomination

For $1500 a used XCR or Tavor. You see them from time to time for that price. If you can swing 2k I’d get on the wait list for a Modern Sporter and build yourself and nice rifle.

Before wanting a black rifle, I would recommend you think of

A) use ——— hunting vs truck gun vs plinking vs precsion shooting vs CQB matches vs etc.

B) once use is figured out you ahould be ab’e to choose caliber . 4 main caliber available are 5.56/223, 7.62x39, 308, 6.5 creedmore

C) once caliber is figured out there will be less choice and it will be easier to make.

A few tips : dont buy a IWI tar or x95 unless you try it before . So many for sale on EE, must be for a reason. Swiss Arms are the best with B&T and maybe atrs. Dont touch a bcl 102, they suck. Stag 10 is good. XCR is good. SKS is good, actually get an sks first watwver you do.

Bullpups are a marmite type of thing - you either love it or hate it. The Liberals beating their chests and shouting about banning "Assault" weapons does this model no favours either and some people may well be offloading them due to the uncertainty of that.

All in all they are excellent guns, reliable, not fussy about ammo or cleaning, well built, compact - and for now at least - non restricted.

Please note I didn`t leave accuracy out of that list of pros by accident......

A second vote for a Mini 14 or Mini 30 . You can get them used for under a grand ; and then add a tactical stock if you wish . If you want to really save money , get an SKS , and put a tactical stock on it . Both guns are tough as nails , and seldom ever jam .

DT741 pretty much nailed it... First questions you need to ask relate to calibre and second is ability to use AR mags... That will change your possibilities.

The M305 is an excellent choice for .308

I bought 2 X WK180C for my twin grandkids, both are in excess of 2K rounds each with their rifle.

All together not even a handfull of issues for each rifle and all in the first 200 rounds since then they have been flawless and very reliable.

For 1100 each, these are a bargain.:ar15:

"my friends keltec has been reliable for over 2000 rounds and never one stoppage"

Aint that the truth!

If you want to spend more, go for a Tavor7, i am at 500 rounds of Hirt Berdan and not one stoppage, never thought i would like a bullpup that much, this is a homerun rifle.
