Recommendations for a SUB $500 Red Dot for CQB use on 10" AR

My advice is stay away from Vortex RDSights. I have had 4 of them break or just stop functioning on me (Strikefires and Sparcs) and I am not hard on my guns at all. Yes, they replaced them every time under warranty but I still had to pay return shipping and lose my RDS for 2-3 weeks. I won't buy anything Vortex again. I have had good luck with Lucid, the TRS is ok but I run a T1 on my 10.5 AR and never looked back. I got it on the EE for $600 with a good AR mount. A little over your budget but I am confident it will NEVER break and if I had to pick an RDS to take to war it's the one I would choose.

Lots of buzz around the "black spider optics". (Spikes tactical) should be seeing them up here shortly , I also know a few people using the holosun with great success but my top pic would be an Aimpoint pro but that at the upper end of your budget.

I've got a H1 on the EE IN NEW condition at the moment. Slightly above budget with the DD mount but it's an Aimpoint. You can never go wrong with an Aimpoint and the micro is my favourite.

Has any one had any experience with a holo site like an eotech, compared with a red dot? I am getting close to looking at a Vortex Sparc 2 or maybe a used Aimpoint. But Iv always loved the look of the Eotech, just zero experiance with them.

I have an aimpoint, and an eotech.

with my eyes the eotech is much crisper, aimpoint are kinda blurry for me.

i exhanged my 2moa aimpoint t1 for a 4 moa t1, the 2moa was a complete nightmare for me to shoot.

there are distinct advantages to aimpoints though namely ruggedness and battery life, both of which eotechs are not great at.

actually the sharpest red dot is the one on my specterdr, very very crisp.

second best would be my trijicon rmr, then the eotech, then the aimpoint.

different people have had different experiences, some are biased some not just ymmv with red dots.

I used an eotech for years I the military. The short answer is its OK. Id take the aimpoint t1 or pro over the eotech any day. The newer eotech is improved but still not as good as the aimpoint lineup. Try the sparc 2 to start, or like I mentioned earlier check the EE a few good aimpoint pros there for 370- 550 with twist off magnification

There is one thing you need to keep in mind when comparing a red dot to a holographic sight such as the eotech.
The red dot is always centered in the viewfinder and is dependant on having the same cheek weld every time for it to be on target.
If your head is not in the same plane you will not hit POA. This is why some people like to co-witness a red dot so that if the 2 points are in line they know they will hit point of aim.

With a holographic sight such as the eotech as long as you see the dot it will hit POA assuming it was zeroed at that distance.
I have the EXPS 2-2 which has a raised quick release base and has dual dots so you can have both a 100m-300m and a 300m-500m zero.
The other advantage of a holographic sight is that there is no forward projection of light therefore it cannot be seen by the tangos downrange.

Unrelated to optics but what type of brake is that? VG6 gamma? How do u like it

Burris Fast Fire lll. I've ran on for the last 3 years and it's awesome.

Hi,

Can anyone recommend from first hand experience a good quality sub $500 1 x red dot for use on a 10" AR for 0 - 400 m CQB type use?

I have a Vortex Strike Fire on my 14.5" AR and I love that red dot, but when I tried it on the 10" AR the balance was all messed up and it felt awkward.

Looking for a light no frills long battery life good quality 3 or 4 MOA 1 x red dot that will co-witness with MBUS.

Any first had recommendations are appreciated.

Dealers welcome.

Marc

Maybe with some of the cheapy sights but this is completely wrong regarding better sights like Trijicons, Meprolights and Aimpoints. You can check it by moving your head around and seeing that the dot stays on the same point of aim.
