Recommendations for an AR-15 scope

I decided today that my current optic on my AR-15 carbine, while capable, ought to be replaced so I was hoping that the collective wisdom of the CGN hive mind might present me with some options.

So here are the variables in no particular order to consider:

  • Maximum $1,000 budget, preferably a little less but I get you have to spend to get
  • Adjustable parallax
  • Decent eye relief
  • Picatinny rail mountable if its one with an integrated base, otherwise ignore this one
  • Magnification past 10x, further the better

Weight not really a consideration as the rifle is a range toy and I don't 3- or 2-gun (for the moment, and I have RDS and BUIS for that). So, is this list and the budget do-able or an I whistling dixie?

With that kind of criteria, I'd probably recommend the vortex viper PST 2-5-10x32. I run it on my 18" SPR type rifle and I've been happy with it. If I start shooting it more and more I'll likely sell it and go with a nightforce or a razor but until then the PST has worked fine for me.

Bushnell 5-15X Tactical, Leupold VX3i SF, Nikon M-223 SF. A $1000 budget gives you plenty of options, it all comes down to what you like. If it's going to be a 100m bench shooter only, a fixed 100yard/meter parallax may not bother you at all.

Nikon Monarch 5 ED 3-15x42. 5x zoom ratio and the ED glass makes this scope just as good as much higher priced options. Nice smooth SF parallax knob and magnification ring. 1 inch tube keeps the weight down and I believe it still has about 65 moa of adjustment. Turrets have a nice positive click and feel. Tracks perfectly. I have 2 and love them. Last time I checked Cabela's had them online for $829. You can also go up to a 4-20x50 for a little more money but I chose not to as the higher magnification model has less internal adjustment. The Monarch 5 ED beats the M-223 hands down no comparison

Sightron STAC 3-16 or 4-20 should be within that budget

I have a 3-16 and it is the best value scope I own

Strongly considering mounting that on my X95
