I'm looking for some good ballistics software, something that I can either put on a pocket PC, or (maybe better) print out my ballistics charts from for long range.

Anyone got suggestions on ones that they find work well?

I'm thinking of Sierra's Infinity, or maybe Nightforce's package?

I'am using Precision shooter workbench and... work excellent, expensive but you get the PC and PALM version at the same time, already some bullet info in it

ballistic program

As Jamie, I use the free JBM program from internet.
works great for trajectories. I shoot at 3 ranges (100, 250 and 560 yds)
and tweak the bullet spedd to match those three data points, then I get the other ranges from the JBM and can get on paper at any range up to 1000.

always best to cross check by actual firing tests at all useful ranges. I'm geting into temperature and air density corrections next. the rest was easy.

I'm using the "Ranging Ballistics Computer" which is an MS Excel based program. If your PDA can handle Excel spreadsheets, you can use it. I've used it for years to calculate everything from come-ups to leads and wind drift for my long range shooting. You can download the program here:

There a number of interesting software goodies on this site, all free :dancingbanana:

I curently use the NightForce program.
Like all the others, if you know all the
info. it requires for proper calculations
it's dynamite program.
What I like most about it, is it has EVERY
manufacturer of ammo and bullets with related
specs to each. There's an icon for each rite
in the program at the top of the screen.
You can retreve BC's, weights. . ., for any
projectile you'd want to shoot.

(Jebus, I sound like a NightForce rep)
Anyway, good program.

Hi Island

The program sendero is using would appear to be the most thechnically "Kickass" of the lot. See what this guy has to say.

You gotta figure a guy who makes missiles for the USAF knows a little something. It looks a little complicated though  . I wonder if you need a second program to generate input data for the first  ?? You find this easy to use sendero?

Thanks for the info. I was also looking at a ballistic program for my pocket PC. Who sells the Nightforce program and can you order it online from the mighty US?

We stock them.

Well, i have to admit it, this software is very BUSY, it took me few day's to learn it but, it work VERY well and you have both interface, palm AND pc, can't say for extreme long range accuracy but up to 325 yard, never miss what i was aiming at... it's like other thing, you must work with it to know it and if you are few month without touching it, the learning curve drop and you must practice with it but, really like it, a LOT of informations, even from different bullet ans scope compagny...

Never try other yet to compare but don't think i will change this one

sniper767,
Maybe yourself or Jamie could help me out. I was trying the Trajectory(Basic)Output feature. When entering the input data, for some reason when I try to change the temperature in either celsius of farenheit it always defaults to 51 degrees F. Do you know if there is a way to change the temperature. Thanks.

Hi All,

I've recently found a new Ballistics app, Gnu Exterior Ballistics Computer, that is Open-Source, Cross-Platform and extremely accurate. When I first came across it, it was only being developed for Windows and Linux but after a little persuading, is now being compiled for Mac OS X as well.

Being a Mac guy, I was a little disappointed to not find any ballistics software built for the Mac platform. Now that GEBC is being developed for OS X, as well as the other platforms, shooting will be much more enjoyable.

I've written a blog post about my journey to get Gnu Ballistics compiled for OS X if anyone is interested, otherwise head over to the sourceforge project site and download your free version of this awesome ballistics app.

Cheers,

Thanks for that info. It's about time we had something for the mac platform. Now I think I have all I need with my HRT watch.
Now off topic, but Garmin now has mac compatibility for their gps's as well. Finally.
I am now spreading the word. ;):D

There is also QuickTarget that comes with the QuickLoad interior ballistics software.

QuickTarget imports loads from QL. It has hundreds of bullets already programed in. Disadvantage is there is A LOT of choices/flexibility, but if you want to know almost everything about external ballistics, wind etc, it is an option.

The demo of QuickLoad/QuickTarget also includes the user manuals which are very informative.

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that I've just finished developing a ballistics calculator for the iPhone and iPod touch... check out the product page I put together for more info, some screenshots and a demo video.

It is available on the iTunes App Store now, for those of you who are interested.

Cheers,
