Novice to rifles. Looking for a scope to attempt 200m plus target shooting. The currant scope provides me a hard to see image at 100m. So I’m looking for better magnification ? Or quality to enable longer shoots.
Not looking to break the bank.$500ish

I recently mounted a Riton 1 CONQUER 6-24×50 and am very happy with it. Tenda has them on for $239.99. Lots of features for this type of shooting: Very clear optics, fine, uncluttered retical that is very fine and will not obscure targets; 0 reset for elevation, 0 return for windage; tools needed to set this up come with it; paralax adjustment; fast focus; and lots of adjustment for long range without using a canted rail.

The only drawbacks (and they are not really a problem for me): I had to remove the throw knob as it was interfering with the bolt handle a some magnifications, but it came with a threaded plug for the hole; narrow field of view at high magnifications; also not a problem of they type of shooting I am doing.

I am getting older and have recently developed cataracts; with this scope at 100 yards it is easy for me to see the bullets strike the targer; no need for a spotting scope.
It also tracks perfectly; returning to zero each and every time. I originally sighted it in at 20 yards then took it to the outdoor range; fired three shots, extimated the distance to center zero based on target rings, diled it up the appropriat number of MOAs, fired another group and was on the bulseye. Shot a few groups that day at <1". The rifle is a CZ 455 Super Match.

OP - Athlon has some good 'medium quality' scope and also 'better ones'. Some Sponsors are dealers for them. I have an
Argos 8-34x56 FFP-IL-SF on my VMTR and it's great, but I had mounted a 30* rail and needed Burris XTR rings to get Zero at 100+ yds. Still a great unit.
Meroh, I hope you have plans to get the Cat-repl surgery. It's well worth it. I had both eyes done in '18 and have no regrets. Luckily for me MSI covered it since I also had glaucoma and between the two it was 'necessary'.

Budget is a must. To me, $200-300 is not breaking the bank. To my one friend, $200 is wayyyyyyy to much money for a scope on a 22, and to my other friend $200 isn't a scope worth buying at all.

Cabelas Covenant scopes are decent for the money when they're on sale, I've got one in a 4-16x on my target 22. They used to be pretty popular for Rimfire PRS production division, not sure if that is still the case or not though.

Thank you.

Saw your Budget edit and the Athlon Argos I got was ca $700. But Athlon has some good ones in your Budget, too.
That Riton Meroh suggested would be a good starter But you might need a rail as it shows only 67 MOA TOTAL (up & down). That's why I needed the 30* rail and Burris EXT Adj rings. The Argos was only ca 45MOA total. Details . . .

It would depend on the rifle; with my CZ I still have over 30 MOA left after zeroing at 100 yards. I'm good to go. :)

I am very happy with the Arken EPL4 6-24 x 50. ( multiples) I had the Riton as mentioned above, not bad for the price, but no comparison to the Arken, bright crisp image with thin reticle.

Look at the Athlon Helos BTR g2s if you like FFP. My fave is the 6-24X56 FFP mil version.

Heras if you want SFP. A bit more vs your budget but the performance and glass are well worth the extra $s

Easy...

What Reticle does (did) your Riton have? Mine has the R3; which as I stated above is very fine, uncluttered and very useable. I find mine as "bright and crisp" as scopes that cost way more than $240.00; as mentioned above, I can see .22 bullet strikes at 100 yards with my 65 year old eyes with cataracts; and with prescription glasses, I am lucky to hit an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper at 20 yards with iron sights. Everyone can buy what they want; this does everything I need it to do and then some. For those with a need to spend a crap-load of money on toys there are lots of options; for those starting out or running on a budget, there are lots of options that are pure junk and most start out with one of those options are are left wanting something more. t is refreshing to find something that fits the bill for a great price.

I had the same thing, and as I said decent for the money. The Arken is FFP if that matters to anyone and is still larger field of view and brighter than the Riton, and is also more expensive.
