Hey guys, I just purchased an ACR and will be sending it in to get re-barrelled to non-restricted length.

I've tried searching but couldn't find anything relevant to what I wanted know.

What is the best muzzle break for a 556, 1:7 twist, 18.5 inch stainless barrel? What would you guys recommend and why?

Thanks for the help, I'm very new to any type of rifles so all the help would be greatly appreciated.

I had one of these Darkmetal brakes put on my .338WinMag, and I'm going to shoot it for the first time later today.
One of the main factors that caused me to select this design is that I shoot from prone sometimes, and the Miculek-style brake on my 'Rinco M14 kicks-up a fair bit of debris.

The Miculek-style brake is pretty effective on my .308.

Oh, the DarkMetal brake was about 100 bux to my door, and the "Miculek-style brake" was about $25 from some eBay seller, about 5+ years ago.

If you're going with a muzzle 'device', you might consider the good old A2 birdcage.
With the weight of the ACR + NR barrel, recoil management isn't a big deal.
Shooting your braked gun at a range, or in a course, can make you pretty unpopular in a hurry....ask me how I know!
The A2 would protect the muzzle...without 'assaulting' your shooting buddies.

Which begs the question....why do you think you want one?

I've been curious about this one: Ares Armor Effin-A Compensator.
For $115, it might be worth a try (less than an PWS FSC556 and certainly the KAC Triple Tap).

Me too, the look pretty interesting, or there's always the BattleComps as well...

However, are either of these "range friendly" or are they just gonna blast the gasses into my buddy? Experience from a KAC Triple Tap.... wasn't fun, would hate to do that to someone

That's a nice break, saw a couple vids on youtube, not bad! great reviews as well... it's knights armament after all.

But worth Over $450? man that's expensive! I want one, who has them in Canada?

I think the KAC is grossly overrated and over priced. Plenty of comps/brakes out there that will do the job just fine. Personally I find the PWS FSC556 to be excellent for both reducing muzzle climb and flash.

You're right, recoil management isn't an issue but less is always better. As for others at the range or on course, the increase in vented gas is their problem. Regardless of what device is attached, being close to the muzzle is never a fun experience.

KevinB has a post somewhere here saying the triple tap is unnesassary unless you're running their silencer. That's coming from the KAC rep himself.

I really like the Stag Comp that came on my rifle.

It controls muzzle rise in double taps and tames the already kitten like recoil of the AR. Shooting from the prone it doesn't lift much dust either. On a short barrel, you wont make friends, but I've not heard any complaints while shooting it on a 16.5 incher.

Incidentally, it's only $25 american.
